Hair changes over time - improve your own understanding!

Hair changes over time because the hair follicle is a living mini-organ that responds to ageing, hormones, genetics, nutrition, inflammation, circulation and the local scalp environment. The visible hair shaft is dead keratin, but what happens inside and around the follicle determines the quality of the hair that emerges.

Hair follicles repeatedly move through the hair-growth cycle.

With ageing, hormonal, genetic or environmental changes influences the hair growth cycle. The anagen (growrh phase) can become shorter and telogen (shedding) proportionally more prominent. Hair therefore may not grow as long or as densely before shedding.
Follicles does not function independently. It sits within a biological environment where changes in hormones inflammation oxidative stress nutrition scalp barrier microbiome (natural envirionment of fungi, bacteria, micro-organisms) ageing can influence follicular function.

That is why two people of the same age can have completely different hair density, texture, greying patterns.
