The late William Bloke Modisane was a well known author,journalist and actor in Kofifi Land (Sophiatown, Gauteng, South Africa) and lived there until 1958.

Ntate Modisane wrote this book in 1963 following the demolition of Sophiatown township by the apartheid government and he was one of a team of black writers of the 1950s who created DRUM Magazine.

Mr Modisane died at the age of 63 in West Germany, where he settled after leaving South Africa.
