Dear 919 listeners,

5 years ago, we were born as Star 91.9FM. In 2023, we repositioned ourselves as a feel-good station and in August that year, we rebranded and underwent a major change in look and feel. Now, we’re going through some more changes, and you’ve been asking what’s happening (yes, we’ve read your emails and WhatsApps).

So, here’s the story.

When our previous station manager’s contract came to an end, the board brought in a new management team. They are the people that built Mix 93.8 into the very successful radio brand that it was and they’ve been looking at how to combine that the best of Mix with what makes 919 special. That’s why you’ve been hearing familiar voices on our frequency, as we look at options for our lineup.

This move makes sense for 919. Several presenters from Mix had already joined our team. Al and Lesedi stepped into the afternoon drive slot when the previous host left the station. Lundi and Max also joined us from Mix.

We’ll share the new lineup as soon as it has been finalised.

Everyone involved with 919 over the years has done it for the love of radio, and that’s not going to change. We believe we have a winning recipe, and with the right advertising support, we can grow our brand into a radio station that is able to attract even more listeners and properly reward the presenters who work so hard to bring you a feel-good experience.

Change isn’t easy for any organisation, and it’s even harder when it’s happening live on air in front of an audience. When we do announce the final lineup, it will be a decision based on what you, our listeners, want to hear, balanced with the business realities of running an FM station.

Some of you will love what we do. Some of you won’t, and that’s ok. Whatever happens, when you turn your dial to 91.9FM, we’ll be here, helping you feel good, any time, all the time.
