As 2025 rolls on, we’ve seen some really cool rides on our covers. Issue 276 (Jan 2025) featured Donovan Naicker’s “Poseidon,” a Mazda RX-8 with a full Rocket Bunny kit. Power comes from a 13B rotary that makes sure Donovan’s neighbours know he’s around. The 7-colour purple pearl flip paint pops from every angle, and the 18-inch Work wheels with massive 13j rears make it impossible to ignore. Inside, the custom interior is just as impressive with 8 Digital Design subwoofers making all the noise. And those Bosozoku-style exhaust tips give off serious Tokyo street vibes. “Emotion” is one of those cars you can’t just walk past. Candy Apple Green, shining like it’s been dipped in sugar, sitting just right on 16-inch Work Emotions. This Mk1 Golf was put together in the backyard at Street Crew Customs by Aadil, his dad and his brothers. Just family hands, late nights, laughs, arguments and those “wait, let’s try this” moments. Under the hood, it’s rocking a 2.0L KR lump with throttles, and an engine bay and undercarriage detailed to the point of obsession. Spotless!

Look closer and you’ll catch the imported touches - Porsche 924 handles, ultra-rare front and rear quarter pop-up windows with all the chrome trims and seals, imported black bumper beadings; all blended in like they were always meant to be there. And what about those VR6 Mk3 vents located in the chin spoiler, LED-modified orange reflectors that are now park lights, and those one-of-a-kind front seats? Everything flows, everything matches, everything has a reason. This is proof of what happens when a family decides, “Let’s build something cool.” Take a bow.

Freddy Thomas’ Candy Apple red Datsun GX isn’t just about numbers, though with 400kW on tap, it can light up the rears. We feature Freddy because he’s taken a beloved little classic and turned it into a proper Street-Cruiser/Supercar-Bruiser. He's blended an Nissan SR20 turbo powerplant with personal touches like handmade steel arches and a perfect paintjob. Inside, it’s all race-ready with lightweight Thurteen Worx race seats and a rollcage. It’s the kind of car that makes people stop, stare and (as Freddy explains) call it a Christmas tree. But Freddy doesn’t care, because it’s all about lighting up the rear tyres and then lighting up a smoke.
