So we learn, we grow, we pray, and we continue leading, with softer hearts, deeper wisdom, and greater humility.

If you are carrying the weight of leadership today, if you feel the pressure, the responsibility, the fear, or even the guilt, know this:
You are not alone.

Your strength is not measured by how little you struggle, but by your willingness to continue carrying the calling placed on your life.

Perhaps leadership was never meant to be about having all the answers. Perhaps it is about humility, perseverance, forgiveness, and faith.

So today I ask the question that so many leaders quietly carry in their hearts:

Am I alone in carrying this weight?
Deep down, I know the answer is no.

And maybe the first step to lightening the burden is simply acknowledging that even the strongest leaders sometimes need grace, faith, and a reminder that they do not walk this path alone.

As leaders we hold ourselves to impossibly high standards. We feel that we should have seen every risk, prevented every problem, and protected everyone entrusted to us. When we fall short of that expectation, the shame can settle deeply into our hearts.

Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves.

Yet faith reminds us of something powerful: we are not perfect, and we were never meant to be. Only God carries that burden of perfection. Leadership does not exempt us from human frailty, it simply magnifies the consequences when things go wrong.

But grace exists even there.

If God offers forgiveness freely, then surely we must learn to extend a measure of that same grace to ourselves. Not to excuse mistakes, but to acknowledge that we did the best we could with the knowledge, strength, and wisdom we had in that moment.

Guilt can teach us.
It can humble us.

It can make us more compassionate leaders.
But it should not destroy us.

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is believing that Godโ€™s mercy applies to us too.

It is a phrase that rolls easily off the tongue, but living it is another story. Faith requires surrender. It requires trusting that God has placed us where we are for a reason, even when we feel inadequate or afraid. It requires believing that the strength we need will be given to us when we need it most.

Scripture reminds us that we were never meant to carry our burdens alone. God invites us to place them in His handsโ€”to exchange our anxiety for His peace and our weakness for His strength.

Leadership may feel lonely at times, but we are not alone.

There are many principals, CEOs, and leaders quietly carrying the same weight. Many who lie awake at night wondering if they have done enough. Many who walk into their workplaces each morning determined to give their best, even when they feel uncertain inside.

But there is another burden leaders often carry silentlyโ€”one that can be even heavier than responsibility itself.
The burden of guilt.

When something goes wrong under your leadership, the weight can feel unbearable. When a mistake is made, when a loss is experienced, or when something happens that you wish you could undo, the mind begins to replay every moment, every decision, every possibility of what you should have done differently.

The guilt can become overwhelming.

On the days when things are going well ,when the team is motivated, the children are thriving, and the vision feels alive, it is easy to inspire others. It is easy to speak with confidence and enthusiasm.

But leadership is truly tested on the days when things go wrong.
When challenges arise, when mistakes are made, when the weight of responsibility presses down those are the moments that can feel incredibly lonely. The burden of the decision, the consequences, the emotional tollโ€ฆ often that weight belongs to the leader alone.

As educators and leaders, the pressure can feel even greater. We are not only responsible for businesses or organizations; we are responsible for lives. The children in our care are precious, vulnerable, and full of potential. The staff who work beside us depend on us not only for leadership but for stability and guidance. The magnitude of that responsibility can be overwhelming.

If I am honest, there are days when I wish I could simply disappear into a quiet space and escape the expectations for a moment. Days when the weight feels too heavy.
And yet, in those moments, faith becomes the anchor.
I remind myself daily: faith over fear.

The Weight on My Shoulders

Leadership is often portrayed as a privilege, and it is. Being your own boss is a blessing that many aspire to. It brings freedom of vision, the ability to build something meaningful, and the joy of seeing others grow under your guidance. Yet behind that privilege lies a responsibility that is far heavier than most people realize.

As principals, CEOs, and leaders, we carry far more than job descriptions and strategic plans. We carry people.
Every day we wake up knowing that our decisions affect the livelihoods of our staff, the wellbeing of the children entrusted to our care, and the stability of families who depend on the environments we create. It is a sacred responsibility, but one that often sits quietly and heavily on our shoulders.

The truth is that leaders are human too.
We carry our own demons, insecurities, and imperfections. We wrestle with doubt and question whether we are doing enough, whether we are making the right decisions, whether we are strong enough to carry what has been placed in our hands. Yet when we step into our schools, offices, or boardrooms, we must often put on a brave face. Our teams look to us for direction, reassurance, and strength. They believe we have the answers.

Sometimes we do.
Sometimes we do not.
