THREE KILLED IN AMALIA CRASH
AMALIA – Three people, including two children, were killed in a devastating head-on collision in Amalia on Wednesday afternoon, while four others were left seriously injured.
The crash happened at approximately 16h50 along Buiten Street in Amalia near the R504 road, under the Mamusa Local Municipality.
According to information confirmed by Tryphosa van Rooyen, two vehicles collided head-on under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Police said one of the vehicles was transporting a driver and five passengers, while the second vehicle had only the driver inside.
A 57-year-old driver, a five-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy lost their lives as a result of the collision.
Four other occupants sustained serious injuries, including a 10-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy, a 38-year-old woman and the 29-year-old driver of the second vehicle.
All injured victims were rushed to hospital in Schweizer-Reneke for medical treatment.
Police have since opened a culpable homicide case as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
Police said it remains too early to determine whether speeding, reckless driving or alcohol played a role in the accident.
