SA is experiencing a breakdown of trust in all sectors of the society. It is not surprising to see the country's communities withdrawing into protective laagers, whether race, ethnicity, religion or any narrow interest which are hostile to outsiders.
What AfriForum and the Solidarity Party are spreading about the democratic SA is unfortunate and un-called for, and is a sign of a low trust society. Should South Africans perceive them as racist and reactionary forces whose agenda is regime change. Should this be punished as a treasonous act?
I think this is a challenge to tried and tested Afrikaner leaders to stand up and take responsibility. Since the dissolution of the National Party (NP) which later added a prefix "New" to become the New National Party (NNP) in 2004, left a a huge leadership vacuum space within the Afrikaner community. Hence today, some Afrikaners have less trust, fear and seem to have accepted the "civil society organisstions" and the US's President Donald Trump as their leaders, their saviours and representatives of their political interests.
Transformation from being apartheid mastermind to signing the Nkomati Accord, the time of Rubicon in 1985, implementing the Wiehahn Commission recommendation, meeting Zambian president Kenneth Kaunda, engagement with the ANC in exile, releasing political prisoners, co-leading democratic political negotiations, joining the GNU with the ANC, adopting the Freedom Charter in 2004, and lately dissolving to join the ANC, the NP/NNP was changing with times.
Considering the NP/NNP's records of adjustments and adaptations strategies in response to changing political trends throughout its life-span, I guess, it would be working with the progressive movement in protecting SA from foreign invasion and from being undermined by Donald Trump.
The FF+, like the then Dr AP Treurnicht-led Conservative Party and Eugen Terlbanche's AWB, represents racist and irrational interests of Afrikaner minority.
