[HAPPENING NOW] Major-General Samuel Thine, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, is leading Tshwane's multidisciplinary team at a roadblock in Ga-rankuwa with additional operational teams continuing policing duties in Ga-rankuwa and Akasia, focusing on compliance inspections at liquor outlets, secondhand goods, and crime prevention patrols.

Tshwane Metro Police, Gauteng Provincial Traffic, and the Department of Home Affairs are jointly conducting vehicle checks for roadworthiness, searching for stolen or hijacked vehicles, and verifying documents.

Senior management of Tshwane District is actively participating in the roadblock and engaging with the community.

Preliminary successes of Operation Shanela in Tshwane include the apprehension of 44 illegal immigrants, 4 persons for illegal gambling, with 1 person for possession of replica firearm and the unlawful possession of TMPD bulletproof, with 58 Aarto infringement notices issued.

Actions executed are 401 persons, 124 vehicles with 13 liquor establishments inspected with 4 liquor outlets closed.

The first phase of Operation Shanela started with an overnight raiding of wanted suspects which has resulted in the arrest of 1 024 suspects for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, assault GBH, common assault and including 2 domestic violence related offences among others, 237 for Gender Based Violence crimes.

Currently, the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Tommy Mthombeni together with his DPC: Policing, Maj Gen Fred Kekana are leading from the front at a roadblock held in De Deur, Ekurhuleni District.

So far the arrested include, 70 illegal immigrants, four suspects for drug related crimes, one for possession of illicit ci******es and four shebeens have also been closed after owners were given fines for contravening the Gauteng Liquor Act.

The operation is running parallel throughout the five districts in the province to ensure safety and maximum visibility.
