The Zimbabwean music world is mourning the loss of legendary Sungura musician, Nicholas Zakaria, often affectionately referred to as the “Senior Lecturer,” following an official statement confirming his passing.
The announcement was made earlier today by the Nicholas Zakaria and Khiama Boys social media account and attributed to the Zakaria Family, expressing “profound sadness” at the death of the “talented musician and beloved member of our community.”
Zakaria, known for his masterful guitar work and inspirational voice, has left an “indelible mark on the music world with his inspiring voice and dedication to his craft,” the family noted.
His extensive career, which spanned decades, saw him rise as one of the founding fathers of the popular Sungura music genre. He was famously dubbed the “Senior Lecturer” for his role in mentoring and nurturing the talent of many other acclaimed artists, including Sungura giant Alick Macheso.
