TRANSPORT & PRESIDENCY DEPUTY MINISTERS HAND OVER BICYCLES TO LEARNERS
EASTERN CAPE - The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr Lisa Mangcu, together with Deputy Minister in the Presidency for the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Ms Nokuzola Gladys Tolashe is today distributing over 360 bicycles to deserving learners in the Intsika Yethu Local and the Enoch Mgijima Municipalities in the Eastern Cape province.
This is part of the Department of Transport’s Shova Kalula bicycle distribution programme.
The Shova Kalula National Bicycle programme of the Department of Transport was introduced as a pilot in 2001 to alleviate transport pressure on poor households and has benefited more than 100 000 deserving learners to date who walk more than 3 to 5 kilometres to and from school daily.
Learners from Bilatye Senior Primary, Mhlobo Junior Secondary, Notmam Secondary, Nonkululeko Senior Secondary and Arthur Mfebe High Schools will benefit from the initiative.
