TRANSPORT & PRESIDENCY DEPUTY MINISTERS HAND OVER BICYCLES TO LEARNERS

EASTERN CAPE - The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr Lisa Mangcu, together with Deputy Minister in the Presidency for the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Ms Nokuzola Gladys Tolashe is today distributing over 360 bicycles to deserving learners in the Intsika Yethu Local and the Enoch Mgijima Municipalities in the Eastern Cape province.

This is part of the Department of Transport’s Shova Kalula bicycle distribution programme.

The Shova Kalula National Bicycle programme of the Department of Transport was introduced as a pilot in 2001 to alleviate transport pressure on poor households and has benefited more than 100 000 deserving learners to date who walk more than 3 to 5 kilometres to and from school daily.

Learners from Bilatye Senior Primary, Mhlobo Junior Secondary, Notmam Secondary, Nonkululeko Senior Secondary and Arthur Mfebe High Schools will benefit from the initiative.

MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING GIRLFRIEND DENIED BAIL

RICHMOND : Franklin Mias(48) has been denied bail by the Richmond District Court in Northern Cape.

The accused is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Geraldine Frazenberg(39).

It is alleged that in the early hours of the morning of Monday 30 October 2023, the accused together with the victim, left their place of residence where they were staying with the victim’s mother in the town of Richmond in the Northern Cape.

Later in the day, the accused arrived home alone with his clothes covered in blood. He later burned and washed some of his blood-stained clothes.

The victim's mother immediately reported the matter, but the suspect could not be traced. He was arrested the following day on Tuesday 31 October 2023, and detained for further investigations.

On Wednesday 01 November 2023, the suspect decided to point out where the victim was after being interviewed by the police, and the body of the victim was discovered by the members of the South African Police Service in a shallow earth pig hole, covered with sand, at the Golf ground near a school.

The matter has been postponed to 16 January 2024, and the accused will be remanded in custody until his next court appearance in the Richmond District Court.

'JUB JUB' BACK IN COURT

JOHANNESBURG: Controversial media personality, Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohonyane will return to the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court today.

The 43 - year old is facing 13 charges varying from r**e, assault and attempted murder.

The charges against the rapper date back to 2006.

Jub Jub handed himself over to the Brixton Police Station on the 27th of July following a warrant of arrest that was issued.

He was released on R10 000 bail later that day under strict bail conditions where he was ordered to hand over his passports to the Investigating officer and was prohibited from having any form of contact with the victims.

JOHANNESBURG : Economic Freedom Fighters Chief in Command, Julius Malema says he will change the name, colours and the emblem of the South African Rugby team, when he becomes President.

The Springboks must fall, says Malema. "That National Team - we will get it a new name, and the new colours, and the new Emblem, which will represent our democracy."

"I don’t support Springbok. I don’t support the Emblem and the apartheid colours that the National Team wears. We want the colours that represent democracy, says Malema.

WOMAN BURNS HER 7 - MONTH OLD DAUGHTER TO DEATH AFTER FIGHTING WITH HER HUSBAND

WITBANK : A 28 - year old woman will appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga for killing her child.

This after the woman burned her seven month old baby girl to death inside a shack this past weekend.

Mpumalanga Police say the woman set set shack on fire with the baby inside following am alleged fight with her husband.

The woman is facing a charge of arson and murder.
