For Sanj Sam, music is not just a passion — it is the very rythm of his life.
-Early humble beginnings -
Sanj’s journey with music began at the tender age of 5, when he first picked up the tabla at a family gathering in Mariannhill. Inspired by his late mother, whose cheerful folk singing ,together with family musicians left an indelible mark on his path.
Being a self trained musician
Over the years, Sanj has mastered a variety of instruments and performed with some of the most respected bands, including Dosti Diwana, Keeran Sungeeth, Suhana Sungeeth, many more.
In 2016, Sanj formed his own band, Indo Fusion Showband, a project that reflects his vision of bringing diversity to music. The band has been widely praised for blending different musical influences. It was then that I began singing more often and never looked back.
Since 2020 Indo Fusion has diversified more into
Sound hire, Disco and later on with Live back track Singing & dynamic Mc services.
He continues to captivate audiences at shows, private events locally in KZN as well as abroad
in Mauritius being one of the many *highlights*

I have been greatly encouraged by my wife, Regina who is not just an inspiration but is involved directly with me in being the backbone of our services.
Backing with beautiful sound engineering and playing awesome Disco music.

My debut recording in 2020 was received well locally and abroad and with help of local and international Radio Dj's

Despite humble beginnings, Sanj has always turned challenges into motivation. His journey proves that music can transcend boundaries and inspire communities. Today, he remains committed to growing as an artist, sharing his gift, and creating timeless moments through music.

🎶 **When did your musical journey begin?**

My love for music started at the tender age of 12. Initially, dancing was my biggest passion—nothing made me happier than moving to the beat of a good song! One of my all-time favorite dance tracks was *Baazigar*—the melody sparked something special in me.

Eventually, I decided to give the mic a try… and that’s when I discovered a whole new world. Singing felt so natural, like I had found my true calling. Thanks to the guidance of my incredible dad, Udesh Bhola Singh, and the inspiration from both my mum(Karuna Singh) and brother (Varish Singh) who are all musically gifted!, that passion only grew stronger with time.

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember—from humming lines at 12 to performing on stages today. The first song I sang was Bhage Re Man (Chameli) and what a special moment it was.

🎼 **Did you study music or learn on your own?**

I’m proud to say I’m a self-taught singer! 🙌
Over the years, I’ve explored different genres, played around with sounds, and truly grown into my own voice. Of course, I haven’t done it alone—my family (especially my mum, dad, and brother) have always been there with their encouragement and honest feedback. I’ll always be grateful for that support.

🌟 **A highlight of your music journey:**

My journey has been packed with unforgettable moments! A few highlights that will always stay close to my heart:

* Winning **first place** at the Hindi Eisteddfod 🏆
* Performing at **The Royal Show** – what a buzz!
* Being **nominated for an Artees Award** – such an honor.
* Bringing the house down with *Suna Suna from Krishna Cottage* at a show in Ladysmith definitely a showstopper moment!
* Performing at community events, from **Diwali celebrations at Protea Grounds** to travelling around **KZN** for functions and shows.

Each experience has helped shape the artist I am today.

🎤 **What’s it like being a local artist in South Africa?**

Honestly? It’s been an absolute joyride!
Being a local artist in South Africa is exciting, dynamic, and sometimes beautifully unpredictable. One of the most surreal moments was hearing my own songs played on the radio—goosebumps every time!

The love and support I’ve received from my family, community, and friends have been my biggest motivators. I'm so excited for what’s to come... and I know the best is yet to come!

Artist: Mahendra Shamaparsadh

Mahendra Shamaparsadh hails from a small town called Dannhauser in KZN
and has now settled in Ladysmith.
His love for Music began at a very young age. His comes from a family of
musicians. He began by learning how to play the dolak and tabla. His music
journey began with his late father and he also joined the Sai Centre in
Dannhauser. It was much later that he decided he wanted to be a vocalist.
Mahendra has been blessed to perform throughout South Africa.
He took 3rd place in the Urja Bhajan singing competition in Durban in August
of 2019.
Mahendra was also invited to received many awards for his musical
accomplishment.
Mahendra has personally recorded, produced and marketed 9 Volumes of his
own CD's which comprise of religious, film and chutney songs.
He is a proud owner of the Band called Levana Sungeeth that has been
making airwaves around South Africa. He has taught some young talents to
play the tabla dolak. His aim is not to let our culuture and mother tougue
fade.
He would like to thank his fan his supporters who have always stood by him.
Mahendra is now representing our town on the 29 July 2023 in Durban ICC
entertainment hall for South African's best Eastern singer competition.which
MAHENDRA is currently in the top 3
