MEC RADZILANI VISITED THE SCENE OF THE HORRIFIC CRASH IN WATERBERG.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani has visited the crash scene of the bus accident that claimed the lives of the 45 people, who were reportedly travelling to Moria, for the Easter weekend church service.

The MEC attended the accident scene, along the R518, at the Mma Matlakala Bridge - between Marken and Mokopane, together with the Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, on Thursday, 28 March 2024.

The two were scheduled to conduct a Road Safety Operation at the Kranskop Toll Plaza, when they received the devastating news of this horrible accident.

The bus had a total of 46 people on board, including the Driver. It has a Botswana registration number, and a process to confirm the citizenship of the victims will only commence, after the foreign missions of both South Africa and Botswana had verified their citizenships.

Only one child, an 8 year-old, survived the accident, and is receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital.

According to reports, the driver lost control, and the bus fell onto a rocky surface, some 50-metres under the bridge and caught fire.

Rescue operations continued until the late hours of Thursday evening, as some bodies were burned beyond recognition, others trapped inside the debris and others scattered on the scene.

End.

Issued by the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Limpopo.

14-YEAR-OLD MODEL FROM LIMPOPO HEADS TO NATIONAL STAGE.

BURGERSFORT: Limpopo model Ketso Tlaka , 14, from Moroke is ready to walk on the Miss Teen Inspire South Africa 2024 pageant runway as a finalist in Johannesburg.

Ketso Tlaka, who has a passion for modelling, is also a writer, poet, motivational speaker, and activist.

The 14 year-old pageant princess is a Grade 9 learner enrolled at Pine Ridge Secondary School in Mpumalanga. She regardards herself as open-minded, dominant and ambitious.

Ketso believes she will be a part of a beauty platform that encourages young women to strive for community development, fight for their dreams and create a place where they are safe. She is passionate about her country and will use this opportunity to inspire better change.

“My passion is walking in the footsteps of the great women before me in leading a life of significance and service. There are so many things that are a contributory factor to the rise of violence in our country! One of them being the low employment rate faced by the youth,” she said.

" I advocate for education because of my belief that education is the key to unlocking our dreams."

Ketso believes in being the light that shines over others and to live a purposeful life which will encourage others to follow her path.

" my journey into the organisation ( Miss Inspire SA ) has not been of ease and continues to push me to thrive on challenge and constantly set goals for myself. I now more than ever am not comfortable with settling and am always looking for an opportunity to do better and achieve greatness. I am dedicated to making my country a better and safer place for my fellow youth".

To help Ketso at the pageant, vote for her by writing Ketso as reference and sending cash to Capitec Account number: 2145108854. Voting starts from R30 10 votes (Check the attached poster for more details).

.

As South Africa celebrates Human Rights day, it is important to continue with the debate on what this month means to us and the world.

Democratic South Africa at age 29, needs to find the deeper meaning of the legacy of Sharpeville Day in that the majority of South Africans still suffer through their impoverished conditions of poverty and underdevelopment.

The freedom attained in 1994 has been rather meaningless for the more than 20 million people who don’t know where the next meal will come from. The thousands of victims of crime and violence each year go through this day in hope of a better life and true freedom.

An even greater debate is needed today more than ever, as to what the people who sacrificed so much with some paying the ultimate price stand to gain in the so-called free South Africa Anarchy seems to be the order of the day, on the streets through crime, violent protests, and university students and certain citizens destroying property.

It is very clear to see that South Africa is still a wounded nation. The Pass Laws and colonial systems may have fallen from the statute books, but their destructive elements still form part of our everyday reality.

Happy Human Rights Day.

SECURITY GUARD ARRESTED FOR MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES.

BURGERSFORT- A 29-year-old security guard has been arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend and attempting to murder her three-year-old son.

The 22-year-old woman's body was discovered on Saturday, 26 March, with multiple stab wounds in the bushes near Mamphahlane village, outside Burgersfort, Limpopo.

Her son, who was found badly injured and bleeding, led residents to her body, said police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

The woman has been identified as Fezile Nqumalo from KwaZulu-Natal. Her family in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, had reported her missing earlier.

Mojapelo said:

The police opened a case of murder and attempted murder, and a manhunt for the suspect commenced immediately. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect stabbed both the woman and her son. The three-year-old victim apparently regained consciousness and was able to raise the alarm.

The investigation led police to the security guard. He has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Mecklenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

"As we continue the fight against gender-based violence and femicide, this arrest will bring a certain level of solace to the affected family. Even though it will not bring back their loved one… it will send a clear message to other perpetrators of these horrendous crimes that the police will be relentless in pursuit of justice," said Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
