Durban principal granted bail in wife’s murder case.

Khayelihle Dhlomo, a 53-year-old school principal accused of murdering his wife, Khanyisile Dhlomo, in 2022, was granted R5,000 bail today in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

Khanyisile, a schoolteacher, was found dead with stab wounds at the couple’s Malvern home in September 2022.

Her death was initially ruled a su***de, but family suspicions prompted a reinvestigation. Dhlomo, principal of Sithembile Primary School, was arrested in July after forensic evidence and witness statements indicated foul play.

Prosecutors argued that Dhlomo staged the scene to appear as a su***de and attempted to evade arrest by hiding in Illovo. He denied the allegations, citing health issues and inadequate medical care in custody.

The bail decision has drawn sharp criticism from the victim’s relatives and women’s rights groups, who accuse authorities of mishandling domestic violence cases.

Dhlomo will return to court at a later date as the murder trial proceeds.
