ZPCS Masvingo Province Celebrates Unity and Sportsmanship at Chikombedzi Tournament

Chikombedzi — The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) in Masvingo Province recently hosted an engaging sports tournament that brought together personnel from its ten stations, fostering unity and enhancing community ties. Missing Mwenezi Man Found Dead After Six Months

Mwenezi – In a tragic development, the remains of 55-year-old Nhamo Muzenda, who was reported missing for six months, were found near the Emangonde River in Mwenezi. The discovery was confirmed by Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, who stated that the remains were identified by Muzenda's wife, Eliza Beture, through his clothing.

Muzenda, a resident of Chivhuru Village under Chief Chitanga, disappeared in January 2025. He left home with plans to go to his job at Zimbabwe Bio Energy. Concern escalated when Eliza couldn't reach him by phone and later discovered that he had not shown up for work. In her distress, she reported him missing at the Mwenezi Police Station.

The remains were discovered on July 14 at approximately 1:00 p.m., leading to police involvement at the scene. His body has since been taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Inspector Dhewa noted that investigations are currently underway to ascertain the cause of death and has encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The local community is in mourning, grappling with the shocking news as they await further details regarding the investigation.

Serial Thief Sparks Alarm in Chiredzi South*

Chiredzi South, a region known for its many families residing in South Africa, is currently grappling with a surge in crime, particularly targeting homes left vacant during the day. With parents often away for work and their children left in the care of housekeepers, this area has become a prime target for thieves.

A particularly notorious thief, known as Lovers, has emerged as a significant threat. Originally from Chikombedzi but currently living in Gezani Village, Lovers has reportedly brought his criminal tactics from South Africa to exploit the vulnerabilities of Chiredzi South. His modus operandi involves targeting homes where young children are present, making it easier for him to carry out his crimes unnoticed.

Lovers' recent activities culminated in his arrest after he stole two bicycles in Chambuta. Community members, alerted to his actions, pursued him on a motorbike and cornered him at Chagwaliva while he attempted to transport the stolen goods back to Chikombedzi. Despite being apprehended and reportedly beaten by the community, Lovers managed to escape before being taken into custody. Residents are now on high alert, with warnings circulating about his potential reappearance.

Witnesses have described Lovers as a dangerous individual with a history of violent crime. His associates in South Africa have identified him as a person who has committed multiple stabbings, leading to his flight back to Zimbabwe. A local resident recounted, “He stabbed a woman here in South Africa and then fled.”

The community's concerns are growing as more reports of housebreaking and theft surface, prompting calls for greater vigilance. Many families are now encouraged to hire elderly caretakers to help protect their homes in light of these rising incidents.

As residents fear for their property, there is a collective hope that law enforcement agencies will take decisive action against criminals like Lovers to restore safety and security in the area.
