A lovely frozen winter morning again! I can clearly see the frozen parts have simply frozen but not much splitting of the blades themselves. A very good indication that the plant has what it needs to defend against frost, for the most part at least.

The backyard kikuyu post winter solstice: Still mowing every now and then to keep the winter fluff at bay. Colour looks way better in person! Definitely an improvement since the Guanoboost application! No turf pigment…I see that’s a thing on the YouTube these days. Still at 15mm HOC.

On the road to recovery. After fertilising last week, I pulled out the rotary and gave this a short mow. Around 15mm at the moment and enough green to keep me happy. Yes, I know it’s winter. Yes, I know it’s LM/Berea/Durban Grass! It will be just fine!

Mornings are definitely chillier these days. The kikuyu is holding up much better than the LM and Bermuda, and for some reason it also seems to pick up much less frost. Perhaps because it’s growing a little more activity still. I don’t know 🤷‍♂️

Feeling a little sick this weekend so the gardening is slow. Yesterday’s tree felling job was larger than anticipated so I’ll taking it easy today.
Next job:
Some time back I changed the shape of this part of the bed and never I levelled again, So that will be filled in this winter. I’m also not entirely happy with the shape I chose and it made the bed area around that wild olive a little too small, so that needs to be adjusted before I add topsoil again. See orange lines for proposed new shape. Thereafter, it’s all about improving the beds. I intend on bringing in a few cubic meters of topsoil and compost to raise some low spots, and give them some new life. Once we’ve got the shape sorted, I’ll start planting in accordance to a specific garden theme. No more smarties box. If all goes to plan, next spring is going to be colourful! Wish me luck

A week on vacation, two weeks since the last mow, and the kikuyu is still looking great! Might take a little off the top this afternoon. With winter creeping in slowly, it’s time to start thinking about what I want to achieve in the yard next spring. Some trees need to go, new ones need to take their places, and flower beds need to be restructured. There’s still plenty to do during winter!
