Why are we so passionate about telling the Karoo Wool story?

Yes, we are closely connected to the industry. We grew up on Karoo sheep farms, currently work on farms or live on them. But beyond our connection to farming, we are passionate about the story of wool itself.

Wool is so much more than a fibre. Its story begins long before it becomes a jersey, blanket or garment. It begins on the farm, with the animals, farmers and people who bring this natural fibre to life.

Recent conversations within the fashion industry around animal welfare remind us why transparency, responsible farming and knowing where our wool comes from matter. At the Karoo Winter Wool Festival, we are proud to celebrate South African wool farmers and the work being done to promote responsible and sustainable wool production.

Certification systems such as the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and the Sustainable Cape Wool Standard (SCWS) provide frameworks for animal welfare and responsible practices throughout the wool journey. According to the most recent report on the last offering of wool on the South African Wool auction 64.4% of all wool on offer was certified wool, and this percentage only continues to increase.

The Karoo Wool Story is one of land, livestock, people, craftsmanship and responsibility.

It is a story of proudly South African farming, natural fibres and a commitment to a more transparent and sustainable future for wool.

This is why we believe in telling the story.

This is why we believe in celebrating wool.

Van sagte merino tot donsige sybokhaar, van chunky breisels tot ongelooflike handgemaakte stukke, het die Karoo Winter Wool Festival 2026 gewys hoe besonders en veelsydig wol en natuurlike vesels kan wees.

Ons het wol gesien in elke denkbare kleur, tekstuur, vorm en styl. Van tradisioneel tot modern, van eenvoudig tot speels, van die plaas tot die modewêreld.

Dit was ’n fees van kreatiwiteit, vakmanskap en natuurlike vesels, en ons het elke oomblik daarvan geniet.

And then there was the fashion.

Wool was worn in every possible way, from beautiful everyday pieces to bold statement looks that made us stop and take notice.

It was cosy, clever, colourful and completely individual.

A celebration of wool, natural fibres and all the wonderfully unexpected things you can create with them.
