Mabizela: I don't watch the PSL anymore, it's boring
Former captain of the Bafana Bafana Mbulelo Mabizela has slammed the current state of the country's domestic league, calling it boring.
"I don't watch the PSL anymore, it's boring. Things aren't the same as when we used to play but I also don't expect it to be. If you were to compare the standard of football from when we played, it has somewhat taken steps backwards," said on VibeFM.
"The current generation couldn't take the baton and continue from where we left off and elevate the standards of the South African game in fact it has continued to regress," he said.
"If special attention were to be paid to academies and we ensure that we teach kids the right things when they're still young than we would not have any issues when it's time for players to adjust to senior football," he explained.

Mpumalanga teen gets 5 years for ra**ng woman, 55, while on bail for similar offence

A 17-year-old was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by the KwaMhlanga Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Friday after he pleaded guilty to ra**ng a 55-year-old woman in 2019.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Monica Nyuswa, the sentence emanates from an incident in October 2019.
"The victim was at home in KwaMhlanga with her husband when the accused arrived [at] their house. He assaulted them both with a knife and r***d the complainant several times and was eventually arrested," Nyuswa said.
"In aggravation of sentence, the regional court prosecutor, Bianca Harmse, convinced the court not to [treat] the accused as a juvenile, since he was not a first-time offender, and to impose a prison sentence as he committed the offence while he was out on bail, under the care of his guardian, for a similar offence he committed in Vaalbank."
Harmse said that, if the accused was an adult at the time, the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment would have applied.
The boy was sentenced to five years' imprisonment and another five years suspended, on condition that he is not again convicted of a similar offence during the period of suspension.
He was declared unfit to possess a firearm and was found unsuitable to work with children.
"The NPA welcomes the conviction and sentence, hoping that it will send a strong message to young generation who commit similar offences," Nyuswa said.

Meet the top 5 richest PSL club bosses

If you assumed Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe was the richest PSL club boss in South Africa, you'd be mistaken.
Mostepe was for a long time the richest PSL club owner by net worth but was overtaken following the sale of Vasco Da Gama to billionaire businessman Johann Rupert, who is the owner of newly promoted Absa Premiership club Stellenbosch FC.

1. Johann Rupert (Stellenbosch)
Rupert was introduced to South African football in 2016 after he bought Cape Town-based club Vasco Da Gama through his company Remgro, with the team eventually winning automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Besides football, the business tycoon has a keen interest in cricket and golf. Rupert is currently the chairman of Ramgro, whose interests are in industrial mining and finance, and also Swiss-based luxury goods company Richemont.
According to the Forbes Rich List released in 2019, Rupert has been ranked as the second-wealthiest person in South Africa after Nicky Oppenheimer ($7.3bn, R108bn).
Rupert is the founder of Franschoek Motor Museum, a car museum that reportedly houses more than 200 of his cars.

2. Patrice Motsepe (Mamelodi Sundowns)
The mining magnate came into football in 2003 after buying 51 percent of the club's shares from the Tsichlas family and took full ownership in 2004, going on to win several trophies including the CAF Champions League, the biggest success in Mamelodi Sundowns' history.
Motsepe is founder and chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, whose interests are in gold and platinum. He is also a board member of Harmony Gold, which is the 12th largest gold mining company in the world.

3. Irvin Khoza (Orlando Pirates)
The Iron Duke's relationship with Orlando Pirates is reported to have started in the late 1970s when he served as a cashier responsible for gate-takings before becoming club secretary in 1980.
Khoza reportedly took full ownership of Pirates in 1991 and brought stability and sponsors to the club. Under Khoza's leadership, Bucs became the first South African club to win the African Champions Cup in 1995 (now the CAF Champions League).
His interests are in property investment and he owns a number of companies including Boitshepo Investments, Nkosana Investments and Sethula Properties, to name a few.

4. Kaizer Motaung (Kaizer Chiefs)
'Chincha Guluva' recently celebrated his 75th birthday. He started his soccer career at Orlando Pirates before going to the United States to play for Atlanta Chiefs. He returned home in 1970 to start his own soccer team, Kaizer XI, which eventually became Kaizer Chiefs, and went on to win a number of trophies with the Phefeni Glamour Boys.
Motaung reportedly sold 40 percent of his stake in the club to Primedia in 1999 for R40-million but recouped that 40 percent for an undisclosed sum in 2010.
Motaung is reported to have served as a board member for a number of companies including Primedia, Royal Beechnut and Simba, to name a few. The Soweto-born businessman reportedly owns Kaimot Investments and Kaizer Holdings and is a director in Motor Inns and Connectivity Partners.

5. John Comitis (Cape Town City)
Comitis and Rob Moore founded Ajax Cape Town in 1999. After 14 years at the helm of the Urban Warriors, he later sold his shares and started his own team, Cape Town City, in 2016 after buying the status of now-defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces. The Citizens have already won two trophies in the PSL.
Comitis has made the majority of his wealth in property and holds shares in Bell Mall Properties, Rapidough Properties and Fusion Properties. He is also reportedly an active director in 11 companies ranging from property to food and entertainment.

A tokoloshe killed my wife' - Convicted Phoenix triple murderer tells court

Durban - The State has revealed shocking allegations about the mysterious death of convicted triple killer, Colin Pillay's wife who died of an apparent su***de.
During mitigation of sentence for the murders of Jane Govindasamy and her daughters Denisha and Nikita, Pillay told the Durban High Court that he is widowed and that his wife died 15 years ago of su***de.
However under cross-examination, when senior State Advocate Cheryl Naidu grilled him on the circumstances of his wife's death, he revealed that his wife had committed su***de because somebody had used black magic on her.
Naidu asked him if he was a suspect in his wife's murder or if there were any suspects or investigations into her death, he said there were no investigations because she had taken her own life.
"She was killed by a tokoloshe. Someone had done black magic on her. My daughters are sitting here in court, they can tell you that my wife committed su***de," said Pillay.
Today, Pillay was convicted of the triple murder of his married girlfriend and her two daughters.
He asked the court for a lenient sentence so that he could take care of his children.
Pillay, 47, a, tow truck driver was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend Jane Govindasamy and her daughters Denisha and Nikita.
Their bodies were discovered inside their Phoenix home by her husband and father of her daughters Sagren Govindasamy.
Pillay had revealed during the trial that he knew that Jane was married and that she stayed with her husband and daughters.
Pillay took the witness stand in mitigation of sentence and told the court that he's a father of four children, of which three of them lost their mother many years ago.
"I ask the court to give me a lenient sentence so that I can sort out place for my children to stay. Since my arrest they have been staying with family friends and was not sure how long the family friends are going to take care of them," he pleaded with the court
He said his eldest son was now staying in a car in his friend's yard because he did not have a place to stay.

Life sentence for man who had dad killed for reprimanding him about smoking nyaope
A man who had his father killed because he was fed up of being reprimanded for smoking nyaope and using other substances, has been sentenced to life behind bars in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.
Brutus Mhlanga conspired with Caswell Ntsheula, Hloniphani Ntombela and Patrick Ziqubu to kill his father in August 2017.
Mhlanga offered his father's car as a "down payment" to his co-accused and promised to pay them R150 000 once he received his inheritance.
On December 11 that year, Ntsheula, Ntombela, Ziqubu and a fifth suspect known only as Thando, went to Mhlanga's parents' house in Katlehong armed with a gun and a knife.
There, Ntsheula and Thando shot and stabbed Mhlanga's father, Shiviti Freddy Mhlanga, killing him. They also shot Mhlanga's mother, Cokweni Lizzy Mhlanga, but she survived.
The men then fled the scene in the deceased's Toyota Hilux.
On Tuesday, Judge Seun Moshidi sentenced the men to life imprisonment and multiple years' imprisonment for conspiracy to commit murder, murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, the illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and attempted murder, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said.
Ntsheula was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 45 years, Ntombela to life plus 51 years, Ziqubu to life plus 63 years and Mhlanga to life plus 51 years.
They were arrested after a police officer received information that Ntsheula was in possession of a firearm without a licence.
Searching Ntsheula's home, police found one round of ammunition. When police asked where the firearm was, he told them that Ntombela had it.
Police then went to Ntombela's home and searched it, but no firearm was found. Ntombela informed the police that he had another house which they could search.
Car reported stolen
Upon arrival at the other property, police found the Toyota Hilux parked in the driveway. When they ran a check on the vehicle, they found that it had been reported stolen and that the owner had been killed.
"Ntombela was surprised as he was not expecting the vehicle to have been reported stolen as it was a 'down payment' [for the killing]," Mjonondwane said.
When asked about the vehicle's keys, Ntombela directed police to Ziqubu's home where a firearm was found.
When police asked them where the vehicle came from, the men directed them to Mhlanga's home where they found a murder scene.
Mhlanga's mother was taken to hospital because she had a gunshot wound to her chest.
Police said Mhlanga had his father killed because he was fed up with being reprimanded for smoking nyaope and using other substances.
Ntombela was arrested on December 12, 2017, and the other three men were arrested the following day.
"The NPA commends the persistent work by police officers to solve this senseless crime, as well as the commitment and dedication displayed by the prosecutor in securing a successful prosecution," Mjonondwane said.

Residents of Soul City squatter camp in Kagiso, west of Joburg, yesterday found the 78-year-old’s body in a shallow grave!
Community leader Terror Mphoselwa said residents suspected foul play on Tuesday night when the helper tried to leave the area. They caught him and took him to Kagiso Police Station.
“But the cops released him, saying there was no evidence as there was no body,” he said.
Angry residents went to look for madala yesterday and found his body not far from the squatter camp. They said the helper disappeared after the cops released him.
Mphoselwa said neighbours heard the madala screaming in the early hours of Tuesday but were too scared to investigate.
“They say the screams suddenly stopped and they later heard something being dragged in the yard,” he said.
Kagiso station commander Brigadier Themba Maduna told Daily Sun the cops were looking for the helper.
He said he was taken in for questioning but released because there was no body.
“A murder case was later opened and the police are looking for him,” said Maduna.

Will the PSL teams release u/23 players?
With next month’s U23 Africa Cup of Nations falling outside the Fifa calendar, the Premier Soccer League clubs have a big call to make regarding the release of players for a tournament which determines which three teams go to the Olympics next year.
Coach David Notoane will lead his charges to Egypt to face Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Zambia in Group B and needs his strongest team, similar to one he has selected for Friday’s international friendly against Egypt in Cairo. The eight-nations tournament is scheduled to take place between 8-22 November, and Notoane needs permission from clubs to pick his ideal team.
“We have already written a letter to the PSL and I think it is critical because if we can get the team as it is now, players that have been together since the first match against Angola, then they have a very good chance to qualify for the Olympics,” said Danny Jordaan, the president of the SA Football Association.
Notoane’s U23 team is a mixture of local and overseas-based players, and that means SAFA would also need clubs abroad to help them out.
“I don’t think the issue of clubs versus country will derail the team. It is strange that the foreign based clubs follow the lead of the South African clubs. If all our clubs release players, then we have a better chance because they can point to our own clubs in our country not releasing players,” Jordaan said.

One suspect fatally shot near New Canada, Soweto following robbery at Cresta Mall
Parktown - A suspect has been fatally wounded during a shootout with the police on Tuesday afternoon, 08 October 2019 near Soweto.
Earlier this afternoon Police were alerted of a robbery at an electronics store at Cresta Mall in the West Rand. It is reported that a group of men entered the store and stole several electronics/appliances. The robbers allegedly fired shots as they fled, resulting in one security guard being wounded and rushed to hospital.
A lookout was activated for the robbers' two vehicles and members from the Anti-Gang Unit spotted and cornered the suspects in a Nissan NP200 on the highway. A shootout ensued and one suspect was declared dead on the scene, one arrested and one managed to evade arrest and is still on the run with police hot on his heels.
One firearm was recovered from the vehicle and will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish possible linkage to previous crimes.
Police are still searching for a second vehicle, a white VW Polo hatchback which went in the direction of Pimville.
Gauteng Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has applauded the vigilance of the members that led to the rapid response and swift apprehension of the suspects.

OVER A 1000 GIRLS UNDER 14 YEARS GAVE BIRTH IN 2018
Teenage Pregnancy.
According to Stats SA, 1,287 births were registered to girls between the ages of 10 and 14 last year.
In the 14 months between January 2018 and February 2019, the agency said, 1,287 births were recorded to mothers between the ages of 10 and 14, based on data drawn from the department of home affairs' National Population Register (NPR).
The ages of fathers can not be tracked with great reliability, because their details remain missing on most birth registrations. In 2018 details of fathers were missing in 62.7% of births, StatsSA said.
The mean age for mothers dropped to a low of 26.2 years in 2006, and only breached 27 years again in 2016. It has been climbing steadily ever since, by 1.1% between 2016 and 2017, and by 1.5% between 2017 and 2018.

Mother allegedly burns child for losing school shoes
Nightmare labour for mother whose baby fell head-first onto hospital floor

When Lucky Moepja started feeling labour pains on Saturday, October 6 2018, she was taken to Philadelphia provincial hospital in Dennilton, about 120km north-east of Pretoria.
Moepja, 26, travelled from Ntwane village, about 25 minutes away. When she got to hospital, she was in pain, bleeding and ready to give birth.
According to Moepja, she cried for help, but her pleas were unanswered. The nurses at the hospital told her to close herself with a towel because she was bleeding. She was then left alone unattended.
“I was in pain and bleeding and I shouted for help telling the nurses that the baby is about to be born. The pain was too much. A nurse told me I had a multiple pregnancy.”
Shortly after that her water broke.
“One nurse ordered me to stand up and follow her. My baby came out while I was in the hospital passage following her. He fell on his head between my legs on the hospital floor. I could see the umbilical cord attached to my baby boy, Homotsegang, dangling,” said Moepja.
“The nurse shouted at me and told me to sit down on the floor. She asked me ‘What are you thinking?’ and said ‘Look now what are you doing!’”
“They examined my child and certified him dead,” said Moepja.
“Another nurse told me to follow her to another consulting room. A doctor came some hours later and examined me and assisted me to give natural birth to baby Keabetswe.”
“My dead child was buried by my parents while I was in hospital, two days after giving birth. The hospital discharged me four days after I gave birth. When I think of the hospital my heart bleeds with the bad memories of the horror I endured,” she said.
Moepja said was told at her local clinic that she had a high risk pregnancy. She was referred to the hospital. She said, she never missed a single maternity appointment until her day of delivery.
Neil Shikwambana, spokesperson for the Limpopo health department, said that a social work team was provided to the family for debriefing and psychological support.
“An investigation revealed that there was poor monitoring and supervision of the patient by the nursing staff,” said Shikwambana. “The two nursing staff implicated were charged with misconduct.”
The hearing was held in May and a report of the outcomes presented to Moepja in August.
One of the two nurses was a community service nurse, who has left the public service. The other one was given a written warning.
Shikwambana said that while the incident was “truly unacceptable”, the investigation found that the baby had died before delivery.
It’s a finding that Moepja doesn’t accept. “I am left with no option but to take legal action against the department,” she said. She wants compensation “to remedy the situation”.

Mother allegedly burns child for losing school shoes

The child’s injury was brought to the attention of her school principal, who reported to the police that the child had burn wounds all over her thighs.
A five-year-old child from Mfekaye Reserve in Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal suffered serious trauma after her mother reportedly burnt her with boiling water for losing her school shoes, reports Zululand Observer.
The child’s injury was brought to the attention of her school principal, Phindile Manqele, who reported to the police that the child had burn wounds all over her thighs.
“The child, who is in Grade R, came to school limping. When her teacher questioned her about it, she was ashamed to give the teacher the honest answer, but her classmates informed the teacher about the incident.
“I have given her a few days off for the wounds to be properly treated and I wish her speedy recovery,” said the principal.
Umkhanyakude police regional spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe confirmed the arrest of the child’s mother, after a case was opened by a social worker at Mtubatuba police station last week.
“A 30-year-old mother was arrested at her house last Saturday and charged with burning her child. She appeared in KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was due to re-appear last Friday for a bail application,” said Mdletshe.
