FAÇADE is a new exhibition by Madeleine van Manen that explores the quiet rhythms of urban life as cities slow and take on new meaning. Large-scale paintings, intimate studies, and delicate fabric works frame streets, buildings, and public spaces as emotional environments shaped by routine, memory, and movement.

View the show, which is presented by House Union Block (HUB), at Sisonke Gallery at the Cape Heritage Hotel on Bree Street from 10 December 2025 to 8 February 2026.

Hanien Conradie’s Water-Verse: Traces of the Traceless, an exhibition presented by Spier Arts Trust, brings to life a decade of rivers, floods, droughts and ritual through immersive paintings, performance gestures and meditative inks, plus a site-specific work.

The choice of Spier Wine Farm as a venue is fitting, as 100% of the farm’s wastewater is cleaned and returned to the land, an approach to water that mirrors Conradie’s practice: attentive, regenerative and rooted in respect.

The exhibition runs until 22 February 2026 at the Old Wine Cellar, Spier Wine Farm,
Stellenbosch.

South African filmmaker and curator Mbali Mashaba is a force in cinema, always centering Black women in her storytelling. From her lighting choices to narratives rooted in hair salon culture, respectability, and identity, her work insists on depth and diasporic experiences.

Her latest short film, I Think I Should Say Something (2025), turns the lens inward with humour and heart, exploring the everyday contradictions of Black hair culture and the courage to speak up.

With a career spanning international residencies, curatorial recognition, and the founding of Behind Her Lens Visuals, Mbali continues to amplify African cinema while building bridges across continents and pushing her films to be seen by a variety of audiences.

Catch the premiere of I Think I Should Say Something at the Africa Rising International Film Festival on 29 November 2025.

At the heart of Ngiyiboneleni? lies a deceptively simple object: the bread clip. For Cele, this everyday item becomes a vessel of longing and familiarity, recalling childhood gestures of chewing or repurposing it as a toothpick. In his hands, the bread clip transforms into a metaphor for persistence, repetition, and the search for warmth in unfamiliar spaces.

a solo exhibition by Johannesburg-based visual artist Smiso Cele, following his completion of the prestigious Cassirer Welz Award 2025 residency. Running from 13 November 2025 to late January 2026, the exhibition extends Cele’s ongoing project Ebhuqwini (2024), weaving together themes of intimacy, repetition, and the fragile comforts of memory.
