The White Steenbras, also known as Pignose Grunter or Steamer, is a popular saltwater fish found in South African waters, particularly along the coasts of the Western and Eastern Cape. It's known for its strong fight when hooked, hence the nickname "Steamer". White Steenbras are estuarine-dependent, meaning they rely on estuaries for their early life stages. They are currently classified as endangered due to overfishing and habitat degradation.

They are found in both estuarine and marine environments, inhabiting beaches, estuaries, and areas near reefs.
They can grow to about a meter in length and weigh up to 30 kilograms.

Bag limit: 1 per permit holder per day.
minimum length of 60cm

White Steenbras primarily feed on polychaetes, crustaceans, molluscs, and other small invertebrates.
They are a sought-after species for recreational anglers, particularly in the surf and estuaries. Popular baits include prawns, bloodworms, pilchards, and squid.
