Mitsubishi Pajero is back, and coming to South Africa.

Mitsubishi has unveiled the all-new Pajero, reviving one of the brand’s most iconic names after global production ended in 2021. The new-generation model will be built in Thailand and is destined for more than 100 markets, including South Africa.

First launched in 1982, the Pajero built its reputation on durability, comfort and serious off-road ability, helped in no small part by its success in the Dakar Rally, where it claimed 12 victories, including seven consecutive wins.

The new model stays true to that heritage with a ladder-frame chassis, Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system and Super-All Wheel Control. Drivers can select between 2H, 4H, 4HLc and 4LLc, while seven drive modes cover Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock.

Power comes from a newly developed 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine producing 480 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed the power output.
Off-road credentials include 230 mm ground clearance, a 30.4-degree approach angle, 22.6-degree breakover angle and 25.8-degree departure angle.

Inside, the Pajero moves firmly into premium SUV territory with twin 14.3-inch displays, wireless smartphone connectivity, a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system and improved cabin insulation.
Safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, forward collision mitigation, front cross-traffic alert, eight airbags and a 3D surround-view camera system.

For South African buyers, the return of the Pajero is significant. This is not simply a badge revival, but a proper body-on-frame, diesel-powered off-roader aimed squarely at families and adventurers who still value genuine 4x4 capability.

Hierdie week se toetsmotor is die splinternuwe Audi Q3 Sportback S line.

Die afgelope twee weke was ek in groot, goed toegeruste familie-SUV’s soos die Omoda C7 en Ford Territory, motors wat baie waarde vir hul prys bied. Toe klim ek hierdie week in die Audi Q3 Sportback S line. En binne die eerste paar honderd meter verstaan jy hoekom ’n premium motor meer kos.

Die vraag is dus nie noodwendig watter motor die meeste vir jou geld bied nie, maar eerder of daardie ekstra verfyning en gemak die hoër prys werd is. Dis nie net oor kilowatts en toerusting nie. Dis die stilte in die kajuit, die gehalte van die afwerking, die manier waarop hy ry en daardie gevoel van verfyning. Vir my, ná ’n paar dae agter die stuur, is dit maklik om te verstaan hoekom baie kopers bereid is om juis daarvoor meer te betaal.

Could the CFMOTO 450MT Become the Next Adventure Legend?

Every era of adventure motorcycling seems to produce one machine that defines it. Not because it is the fastest or most expensive, but because it captures the spirit of exploration and earns the trust of riders across the globe.

In the early 1980s, it was the BMW R80 G/S. It introduced a new way of thinking, proving that one motorcycle could comfortably tackle both tar and dirt. Then came the Honda XRV750 Africa Twin, inspired by Dakar and revered for its reliability. It became a true globe-trotter, carrying riders across continents and building a reputation that remains strong decades later.

The Kawasaki KLR650 followed a different path. It wasn't glamorous, but it was affordable, dependable and easy to repair. It became the bike of choice for countless overlanders who valued simplicity over sophistication.

Now the question is whether the CFMOTO 450MT could become this generation's legendary adventure bike.

It certainly has the right ingredients. It is light enough to inspire confidence off-road, capable enough for long-distance touring and, perhaps most importantly, affordable enough to put adventure riding within reach of more people. Rather than chasing ever-bigger engines and more complex technology, the 450MT focuses on balance and usability.

Of course, legendary status isn't awarded at a launch event. It is earned over years of hard riding, thousands of kilometres and countless stories told around campfires. The R80 G/S, Africa Twin and KLR650 became icons because they proved themselves in the real world.

The CFMOTO 450MT still has that journey ahead of it. But early signs are promising. Riders are already taking them on transcontinental trips, remote expeditions and demanding off-road adventures.

If history is anything to go by, legends aren't built by specifications alone. They're built by the people who ride them. The 450MT may just have what it takes to become the defining adventure motorcycle of a new generation.

Verlede week was dit die OMODA C7. Hierdie week klim ek in een van sy mees direkte mededingers, die nuwe Ford Territory.

En hier raak dit interessant: die twee is omtrent dieselfde grootte, mik na dieselfde familiekoper en sekere modelle verskil met net R5 000 in prys.

So, kies jy die nuwer Chinese uitdager met hope toerusting, of die bekende Ford-kenteken? En belangriker, watter een ry die lekkerste?
