[BREAKING NEWS] Five people were killed in a collision between a small car and a cargo truck on the N2 highway outside Amatikulu, in KZN.

Operations are back to normal at Maponya Mall in Pimville, Soweto, following Wednesday night's deadly incident, which sparked outrage. 27-year-old e-hailing driver Siyanda Mvelase was killed while many were injured during the attack, allegedly by taxi operators. Today marks 13 years since 34 mineworkers were gunned down by police in Marikana, North West. The mineworkers had gathered at Marikana koppie, demanding a R12,500 monthly salary for the lowest-paid employees. Thousands of AMCU members are expected to gather at the koppie today for a commemorative ceremony. Newzroom Afrika's Refiloe Seboko reports.

The mineworkers from Lonmin Plc went on strike for six weeks, challenging their working conditions and demanding better pay. Two more inmates have died after Thursday's collision between a police vehicle and a truck on the R101 road between Mokopane and Mookgopong, taking the total death toll up to nine. One police officer and eight inmates died, while some injured inmates are still receiving medical treatment. Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba has more.
