The showed us so much love! Our short documentary, “Celebrating Herstory Through Song” screened this weekend and it was beautiful.

The film reflects on songs composed in honor of Mama Winnie, and the discussion afterwards reminded us why her legacy continues to inspire.

Big gratitude to the festival for the platform, and to everyone who joined us and shared their thoughts. The journey continues. 🎶✊🏾

MEET THE TEAM | Khule Mayisa

Some editors stitch scenes together. But weaves meaning.

As the editor of “Dear Sikhonkwane”, Khule helped unlock layers of meaning that transformed the film into the experience it is today.

Khule is an independent director, editor, and photographer from Johannesburg who uses film to confront Black oppression and erasure. Since graduating with a BA in Film & Television in 2018, she’s directed music videos and experimental shorts, with a poetic style that Mail & Guardian describes as, “Blending polemicism with a unique, sensuous visual sensibility.”

Her 2021 short “Okumhlophe” won two international awards, and her work has screened at festivals in South Africa, Nigeria, Germany, Poland, the UK, and the USA. She was selected for Frankfurt’s prestigious B3 Hessenlab and is currently one of the directors on the NFVF Youth Filmmaker Project, with a 10-part anthology due in 2025.
