Thailand has been amazing!!! This is a monocled cobra we found today!! My big goal was to see a cobra in the wild and my friend Chris spotted this one right on the edge of the property we’re staying at!! I’ll have videos of this encounter coming soon!
Monocled cobras posses a powerful neurotoxic venom and drop for drop their venom is more deadly than a king cobra’s. Never approach or attempt to handle.
The cobra’s hood is spread to warn of the danger it can inflict with its venomous bite. People often think a cobra hooding up or a rattlesnake rattling means it wants to attack, but it actually means the total opposite; the snake is trying to warn you of the danger and give you the chance to get away. If it actually wanted to bite you it would never announce it’s presence by hooding up or rattling, it would remain unnoticed and simply bite. So if a snake is ever announcing it’s presence by rattling or displaying, heed the warning and back off, but even if you don’t like snakes never kill one for trying to do you a favor! Even the venomous snakes play an integral role on the ecosystem and deserve to be there and live out their lives.
This snake had some scarring on the body and nose rub, we think it may have been trapped in a fish trap or could’ve been a relocated animal.
