Serial ra**st unmasked and sentenced to life behind bars
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, has welcomed the life sentence and an additional 25 years of direct imprisonment handed down to 36-year-old Bongani Ntoro by the Molopo Regional Court on Monday, 30 June 2025.
Ntoro was found guilty of ra**ng four women and a 12-year-old girl between 2007 and 2010 in the villages of Magogoe, Tloung, and Seweding, all within the Mmabatho policing precinct.
During the crimes, he reportedly concealed his identity by covering his face. After years of evading justice, Ntoro was finally apprehended at the Mahikeng Taxi Rank on Friday, 17 May 2024, thanks to a breakthrough in forensic DNA evidence.
The court praised the thoroughness of the investigation, which ultimately led to his arrest and conviction. Ntoro was denied bail and remained in custody until his sentencing. The court handed down the following sentences: Counts 1 & 3: Housebreaking with intent to r**e – six years direct imprisonment on each count; Counts 2, 4 & 8: R**e – life imprisonment on each count; Count 5: Sexual offence – six years direct imprisonment; Counts 6 & 7: Aggravated robbery – 15 years direct imprisonment on each count. All sentences are to run concurrently with the life imprisonment term. Major General Asaneng commended the investigating officer, Sergeant Tshepiso Makunye, Reservist Constable Makabe, Prosecutor Advocate Kefentse Diseko, and all officials involved in the successful prosecution. “The arrest, conviction, and life sentence of this remorseless sexual predator is a firm and fitting response to the President’s call for decisive action against gender-based violence,” said Asaneng.
“This case reflects the effectiveness of the government’s multi-sectoral Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) National Strategic Plan, particularly the pillars of prevention, justice, support, and healing.” He praised the police and prosecution teams for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment, describing their work as “inspiring, appreciated, and commendable.”
He added that the outcome of the case sends a strong message and will further strengthen efforts to combat gender-based violence, especially crimes against women and children.
