The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has commended the Provincial Tracking Team for the swift arrest of a 37-year-old suspect on Monday, 1 June 2026, following a viral social media video allegedly showing him assaulting a woman in Dinokana Village, Lehurutshe.
The video, shared by a local community activist over the weekend, prompted an immediate police investigation. Information gathered by the Provincial Tracking Team led to the suspect's arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is currently out on parole after being convicted in 2022 for possession of an unlicensed firearm. Detectives have also linked him to a house robbery case reported in May 2026, an assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm case related to the viral video, and a case involving the violation of a protection order reported in April 2026. Further investigations are underway to determine whether he may be linked to additional cases.
Major General Naidoo reaffirmed the South African Police Service's commitment to protecting women and children, who remain among the most vulnerable members of society. He also thanked the community activist for speaking out against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and encouraged residents to report crime through the appropriate channels.
