Chambishi Farmers Cry Out for Inclusive Compensation After Sino Metal Pollution

Residents of Chambishi area in Kalulushi District have spoken out, saying they are still waiting to benefit from compensation and relief support following the 2025 Sino Metal pollution incident.
The pollution, which happened over a year ago, reportedly affected farming fields, water sources and land, leaving many farmers struggling to recover.
Some affected residents claim that only a small number of people have received assistance since the disaster.
The farmers say the identification process mainly focused on residents from Kalusale, while other people with gardens and farmland in the polluted area but living elsewhere were left out.
They are now calling for an inclusive compensation and support process to ensure every affected victim benefits from the aid being provided.

NEWBORN BABY GIRL RESCUED FROM BUSH NEAR MOPANI MINE IN KITWE.

A newborn baby girl is recovering at Chamboli Level One Hospital after being found abandoned in a bush near Mopani Copper Mines in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt Province.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi confirmed the incident, stating that the infant was discovered in the Area D vicinity of Chamboli Township.

Mr. Yuyi said the baby was found around 14:00 hours on May 10, 2026, after two young boys heard cries coming from nearby bushes. The boys quickly alerted a security guard identified as Field Kasongo, 40, who immediately reported the matter to Chamboli Police Post under Wusakile Police Station.

Before police officers arrived at the scene, a concerned resident, Dyness Mwila of Mulenga Compound, rescued the infant and rushed her to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Medical staff at Chamboli Level One Hospital have confirmed that the baby is approximately one day old and is currently in stable condition.

Police say no arrests have been made so far, and investigations are underway to identify the mother or any individuals connected to the abandonment.
