POLICE PROBE MURDER OF 62-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN MONGU

By Martin Lubasi Lubasi

Police in Mongu District have launched investigations into the murder of a 62-year-old woman whose body was discovered in Mbuywana Stage Three Compound in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Mwila Kalenga, 62, of Village Chizimo in Chief Masilokwa's area of Kalabo District. According to police, the incident was reported to Mongu Police Station around 07:00 hours after her body was found in an unfinished house within Mbuywana Stage Three Compound.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ms. Kalenga attended a traditional initiation ceremony, locally known as "Siomboka," on Saturday evening. Police say she later left the gathering for an unknown destination after reportedly leaving her mobile phone in the custody of another woman attending the event.

Officers who visited the scene found the body undressed and bearing multiple injuries. Police suspect that the attackers may have attempted to sexually assault the victim before killing her.
Human footprints were also observed at the scene, which investigators believe could assist with the ongoing probe.

The body has been taken to Lewanika General Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination. No arrests have been made so far. Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects to report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.

NGABWE DC WARNS FARMERS AGAINST SELLING MAIZE TO BRIEFCASE BUYERS

By Martin Lubasi Lubasi

Ngabwe District Commissioner Stanley Mwendachabi has warned farmers against selling their maize to briefcase businessmen, saying such buyers are exploiting them by offering low prices.

Mr. Mwendachabi advised farmers to wait and sell their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA), where they can receive a fair and competitive price for their produce.

He said selling maize to the FRA is not only beneficial to farmers but also contributes to the country's food security by increasing the national strategic food reserves.

The District Commissioner further assured farmers that there will be no delays in payments during this marketing season. He explained that payments will be made through mobile money platforms and other accessible payment outlets available in rural areas.

Mr. Mwendachabi said this in an interview with Keembe FM News.

IBA DENIES BANNING POLITICAL CAMPAIGN SONGS

‎By James Mwale.

‎The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has dismissed circulating claims that it banned political campaign songs on radio and television stations.

‎IBA Director General Webster Malido clarified that the Authority has no legal mandate to prohibit music in Zambia.

‎He explained that the IBA only issued guidance to broadcasters on how to handle election-related content, including campaign songs and advertisements.

‎The guidance urges radio and television stations to avoid airing material that promotes hatred, division, or inflammatory statements.

‎Instead, broadcasters are encouraged to support responsible and issue-based political discourse during the election period.

‎Malido emphasised that the directive forms part of the IBA’s routine efforts to ensure compliance with broadcasting standards and promote peaceful elections.

‎The statement comes after social media reports suggested the regulator had imposed a total ban on political campaign songs.

K1.3 MILLION SPENT ON REHABILITATION OF KAFUE RIVER PONTOON IN NGABWE

By Martin Lubasi Lubasi

The Government has spent K1.3 million on the rehabilitation of the Kafue River Pontoon in Ngabwe District, a development expected to improve transportation and access to essential services in the area.

Speaking in an interview with Keembe FM News, Ngabwe District Commissioner Stanley Mwendechabi said the pontoon had been out of operation for some time, negatively affecting the movement of agricultural produce and the delivery of health services in the district.

Mr. Mwendechabi explained that the non-operation of the pontoon had made it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets, thereby affecting their livelihoods and slowing economic activities in the area.

He said the rehabilitated pontoon was officially relaunched on Thursday, May 28, and is expected to ease transportation challenges for residents and businesses.

Mr. Mwendechabi further disclosed that the Government is also working on the Kabwe–Ngabwe Road. He said graveling works will be undertaken before the commencement of upgrading the road to bitumen standard.

He noted that the road project will improve accessibility and enable farmers to transport their agricultural produce more efficiently, thereby contributing to economic growth in the district.

Mr. Mwendechabi reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in Ngabwe District in order to enhance service delivery and support development
