MULUNGUSHI TEXTILE RECEIVES FINAL BATCH OF STATE-OF-THE-ART MACHINERY

Yesterday, Ministy of Information and Media, Director Spokesperson Mr Henry Kapata witnessed the arrival of the final batch of equipment at Mulungushi Textile in Kabwe Central Province as the plant gears up to resume operations with new ultra modern equipment.

Highlights from the visit:

Equipment Installation:

✅ The factory is set to install 100% of critical equipment that has now arrived, marking a significant milestone in the operationalization process.

✅ The factory boasts cutting-edge technology, including a state-of-the-art steam boiler that replaces the older coal- and oil-powered ones.

✅ Among the newly arrived equipment include:
- Steaming machine
- Washing machine
- Tentering machine
- Electric boiler
- Auto printing machine
- Cutting machine
- Printing machine

Government Oversight:
✅ The tremendous progress in phase one is acknowledged by the government, with old equipment removed as scrap under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s guidance.

Historic Upgrade:

Civil Servants Get K500 Salary Increase

(ZANIS) Civil Servants have been awarded a salary increment of five hundred kwacha across the board effective January 1st, 2025.

Announcing the development at a media briefing, Union Representative, JOY BEENE disclosed that the 23 Unions and government agreed to award civil servants a five-hundred-kwacha basic salary increment after holding negotiations for improved salaries and conditions of service.

Mr. BEENE explained that the Unions decided to reach a compromise owing to the current economic challenges facing the country.

Meanwhile, ZANIS reports that transport allowance for public workers living with disabilities has been increased from 20 to 35 percent of the basic salary effective January 1st, 2025.

Last year, government awarded civil servants a 550 kwacha increment.

Itezhi-tezhi hubby flees after stabbing to death estranged teen wife

A TEENAGE wife in Southern Province's Itezhi-tezhi, who wanted to take a break from a marital dipute is reported to have been killed by her husband while she was asleep at her parents home.

17-year-old Olliness Chilala girl of Itezhi-tezhi district in Southern Province was attacked around 03:00 hours on Monday and stabbed to death.

According to authorities, the deceased had a marital dispute with her husband, Featherstone Hamainda on Saturday afternoon, which caused her to leave her matrimonial home in Kasuse Village and temporarily went to stay with her parents in Kabimba Village.

But while she was there, her husband
sneaked into her parents compound to attack her around 03:00 hours on Monday.

According to reports, Hamainda followed his wife while she was sleeping with her sister and stabbed her on the neck, killing her instantly.

After the act, he fled the scene.

Family members later called the police around 04:00 hours to log in a complaint at Itezhi-tezhi Police Station through a phone call around 04:00 hours.

“Police will give more updates on the matter after visiting the scene and collecting detailed facts, as of now, a manhunt for the culprit has been launched,” said Southern Province police Commanding Officer, Auxensio Daka who confirmed the incident.

Government has released 500 million Kwacha to the Food Reserve Agency -FRA- to enable it to pay the remaining farmers that sold their maize to the Government through various FRA depots countrywide.

FRA Public Relations Coordinator JOHN CHIPANDWE has told ZNBC news that the Agency has transferred the funds to banks countrywide for onward payment to eligible farmers.

Mr. CHIPANDWE has since urged paying banks to expedite the release of funds to the remaining farmers to enable them buy farming inputs in readiness for this year’s farming season.

MAN ATTACKED BY ELEPHANT IN LIVINGSTONE RECOVERING IN HOSPITAL

A man from Livingstone is recovering in the city’s University Teaching Hospital after being attacked by an elephant in Linda compound.

The man, believed to be aged between 35 and 40, endured the attack on November 10, 2024, around 21:00 hours.

A report filed by Constable John Thue, who was performing night duties at ZESCO’s substation in Linda Compound, indicates that he saw the victim walking southbound.

The officer noted that the survivor passed the first gate of the substation, but before he could reach the second, he encountered four elephants which charged towards him.

Byta FM News has learned that while he tried to escape by climbing on top of the ZESCO substation gate, one elephant struck him with its tusk and tossed him to the ground.

Confirming the incident, Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, stated that before the elephant could attack further, it was chased away by people who came out of their houses after hearing the noise.

Daka noted that the man, who was unconscious, sustained deep cuts on his lower jaw and left armpit.

He was later rushed to Livingstone Teaching Hospital by a pastor from the community, where his condition is said to be stable.

GIRL STABBED TO DEATH BY HUSBAND IN ITEZHI TEZHI DISTRICT

A 17-year-old girl from Kakuse Village in Shezongo chiefdom, Itezhi Tezhi district, was stabbed to death by her husband following a marital dispute.

Byta FM News has gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning around 03:00 hours.

Confirming the development, Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, noted that the couple had quarreled on November 9, 2024, prompting the deceased to leave her matrimonial home and stay with her parents in Kabimba village.

Daka stated that in the early morning of November 12, 2024, the husband, whose age is yet to be established, followed the deceased to her parents’ residence and stabbed her in the neck while she was sleeping in a hut with her sister.

Shortly after committing the crime, the suspect fled, and the police have launched a manhunt.

Meanwhile, according to an amendment to the 1918 Marriage Act enacted on December 22, 2024, Zambia raised the minimum marriageable age to 18 for all marriages, including those concluded under customary law.

The amendment adopts the Zambian Constitution’s definition of a child as a person who has attained, or is below, the age of eighteen years.

ZANACO FC HEAD COACH WEDSON NYIRENDA RESIGNS AFTER POOR RESULTS

Zanaco Football Club Head Coach, Wedson Nyirenda, has resigned from his role at the MTN/FAZ Super League side after a stint of poor results.

According to a statement obtained by Byta FM Sports from the club’s media team, they thanked Nyirenda for his contribution to Zanaco FC, stating that his efforts were instrumental in ensuring the team’s continued presence in the league last season.

The club has since appointed First Assistant Coach Dabid Chilufya as Interim Head Coach, while Henry Banda will maintain his role as Assistant Coach, and Kennedy Kalale will continue as Goalkeepers Coach.

The seven-time Zambian league champions have only won one game this season, losing four times and drawing six.

Currently, the team occupies sixteenth position with nine points.
