Republican President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated that electoral lawlessness will not be tolerated in Zambia, stating that all perpetrators will face the full force of the law regardless of political affiliation or social standing.
Through his official page, the President said his position on the matter remains firm and unchanged. He condemned circulating footage showing individuals attempting to prevent the lawful filing of nominations, describing the acts as unacceptable, undemocratic, and a direct violation of the rule of law.
President Hichilema said he expects law enforcement agencies to move swiftly and professionally to arrest all those responsible. He emphasized that Zambia is governed by laws, not intimidation, violence, or mob conduct.
βThose who wish to test this Governmentβs resolve to maintain law and order are entirely on their own,β he stated. The President added that the State will act firmly and decisively against all forms of electoral violence and disorder.
The statement comes amid heightened political activity around the candidate nominations process.
