35-YEAR-OLD MAN DIES AFTER MOTORCYCLE COLLISION IN CHAMA DISTRICT.

By Zambia Reports Reporter

A 35-year-old man has died in a road traffic accident involving two motorcycles in Chama District of Eastern Province.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer ROBERTSON MWEEMBA says the accident happened today around 09:20 hours at Kaozi Village area, about five kilometres north of Chama town.

Mr. MWEEMBA identified the deceased as PETER PHIRI of Kasangani Village in Chief Kambombo’s area, who died on the spot after the motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with another motorcycle.

He explained that PHIRI was riding a GT motorcycle registration number ARC 8332 from north to south when he allegedly lost control due to excessive speed and crashed into an oncoming unregistered Kinglion motorcycle ridden by ELIAS NGULUBE, aged 29, of Lukomboziozi Compound in Chief Kambombo’s area.

Mr. MWEEMBA said PHIRI sustained multiple injuries including a fractured right forearm, fractured right thigh, broken jaw, cuts on the cheek and bleeding from the nose and mouth.

He added that a female pillion passenger on PHIRI’s motorcycle, identified as GRACE THOLE, 27, of Dungulungu Village, sustained a fractured right knee and other injuries.

Mr. MWEEMBA further said NGULUBE suffered injuries to his fingers and complained of general body pains, while two passengers on his motorcycle, MARY MUCHELENG’ANGA, 17, and 11-year-old WHYNET MKANDAWIRE, also sustained injuries.

He said all the victims were rushed to Chama District Hospital where they are admitted, while the body of the deceased has been deposited in the hospital mortuary.

Mr. MWEEMBA said the damaged motorcycles have since been parked at Chama Police Station as investigations continue.
