ZAMBIA FORECASTS NORMAL TO ABOVE-NORMAL RAINFALL FOR 2025–2026 SEASON.

The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has projected that Zambia will experience normal to above-normal rainfall during the 2025–2026 rainy season.

Green Economy and Environment Minister Mike Mposha announced that rainfall in Northwestern, Western, Southern, Lusaka, Luapula, and Northern Provinces is expected to begin as early as October.

However, Muchinga, Eastern, Copperbelt, and parts of Central Province will see delayed rainfall, starting in late November or early December.

Mr. Mposha stated that the peak of the rainy season will occur between December and February.

He advised farmers to prepare their land early but delay planting in regions where rainfall is expected to start late, in order to avoid crop failure.

He emphasized that the forecast is crucial for national planning, economic stability, and safeguarding the livelihoods of millions of Zambians.

“We are sincerely grateful to His Majesty for his warm welcome, invitation, and gracious hospitality during our stay in Glasgow,” President Hichilema said.

UPND LEADERS CAUTIONED AGAINST PUBLIC REBUKE OF OFFICERS AFTER MATAMBO'S POLICE CRITICISM

Former Transport and Communication Minister Dr. Brian Mushimba is urging UPND leaders to handle matters more formally after Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo publicly criticized a traffic police officer for mounting a roadblock early in the morning.

In a widely shared video, Mr. Matambo is seen expressing concerns that officers were causing unnecessary delays on Copperbelt roads.

However, Dr. Mushimba says while acknowledging Mr. Matambo's genuine concerns, he is suggesting that a more effective approach would be to engage the traffic police's central command, which instructs officers on roadblock placements.

He has told Phoenix News that the increasing number of roadblocks and speed traps nationwide are part of the traffic police's design and implementation.

Dr. Mushimba adds that criticizing an officer publicly, as Mr. Matambo did, could be demotivating.

FORMER CONGOLESE PRESIDENT SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR WAR CRIMES

BBC- The 54-year-old led DR Congo for 18 years, after succeeding his father Laurent, who was shot dead in 2001.

Kabila handed power to President Félix Tshisekedi in 2019, but they later fell out and Kabila went into self-imposed exile in 2023.

In April this year, the former president said he wanted to help find a solution to the deadly fighting in the east and arrived in the M23-held city of Goma the following month.

President Tshisekedi accused Kabila of being the brains behind the M23 and senators stripped him of his legal immunity, paving the way for his prosecution.

Decades of conflict had escalated earlier this year when the M23 seized control of large parts of the mineral-rich east, including Goma, the city of Bukavu and two airports.

Pointing to overwhelming evidence, the UN and several Western countries have accused neighbouring Rwanda of backing the M23, and sending thousands of its soldiers into DR Congo.

But Kigali denies the charges, saying it is acting to stop the conflict from spilling over onto its territory.

A ceasefire deal between the rebels and the government was agreed in July, but the bloodshed has continued.
