LUBUSHA DISMISES ASSERTIONS THAT HE SPONSORED THE TOURNAMENT WHICH TURNED DEADLY IN HIS CONSTITUENCY.

Chipangali Member of Parliament Andrew Lubusha has dismissed the assertions that he sponsored the tournament which led to the murder of a referee in Chipangali District.

The incident happened during a match at Mchenga Primary School ground in Msandile Ward.

In a statement, Mr. Lubusha described the murder of a referee as deeply regrettable and unacceptable, stressing that violence has no place in sports and community activities.

Mr Lubusha said branding the tournament as Andrew Lubusha Tournament, was wrong because it was organised by locals and the said organisers only approached his office for supplementary support towards the same community tournament, to which through his office contributed match balls and K5,000.

Mr Lubusha further stressed that all his tournaments are organised through the FAZ committee in Chipangali district.

The law maker has since called on the Police to conduct swift investigations into the matter and ensure that all the perpetrators are brought to justice in accordance with the laws of Zambia.

He stated that the last tournament he organised was in January with K200,000 as prize money adding that he or his office did not organise, brand or owned any tournament since.

Mr Lubusha has since conveyed his condolences to the Tonga family, friends, and the people of Chipangali following the death of the referee.

Opinion:

UPND risks losing Chipata North if Elidah Mwanza is left out on adoption.

The ruling UPND party should put its ears on the ground as they go towards adoptions ahead of the August 13th General Elections.

History has a tendency of repeating itself, what led to the downfall of the Patriotic Front in 2021 especially in Eastern Province was the party's inability to listen to the voices of the people on the ground when it was time to adopt those to contest as members of Parliament, Mayors, Council Chairpersons as well as Councillors.

Eastern had a lot of independent members of Parliament who scooped the seats defeating those who were favourites of the Patriotic Front party top guns. This shows that what an ordinary member of a political party on the ground sees is beyond what an official seated in an air-conditioned office in Lusaka can see.

Elidah Mwanza is ripe and ready to represent the people of Chipata North as their member of Parliament. Those with eyes and ears on the ground are able to see and hear what the current Chipata District Commissioner has done so far preparing the ground for the party and her victory as a representative of the people.

Transferring candidates who have failed to work in their current constituencies to these newly created ones will not help the ruling party. Remember the Chewa proverb, "fisi ni fisi ndithu ngakhale musinthe thengo."

Chipata North as a new Constituency needs a visionary leader who will lay a developmental foundation for those to come not another failure.

"Wakutsina khutu ndi m'nansi."
