MAN IN COURT FOR SWIÑDLING ZAMBIA POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

A Lusaka man is in court for allegedly swindling Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer, Rea Hamoonga, out of K159,000 in a suspected cattle scām.

The accused, Cryford Chuuba, is said to have deceived Mr. Hamoonga by claiming he had 73 cattle for sale, when in fact he did not.

The incident is believed to have occurred between November and December 8, 2024, in Lusaka.

Mr. Hamoonga is expected to testify in the matter on July 28, 2025, before Presiding Magistrate Amy Masoja.

Chirundu town Council chairperson implores local residents to be proactive in selecting and identifying projects to be done using CDF.

CHIRUNDU TOWN COUNCIL Chairperson Nevers Muchindu has advised the Chirundu community In all the twelve wards to take keen interest and fully participate in the selection process of Constituency Development fund (CDF) projects in the district.

Mr. Muchindu says it is critical that community members in the wards participate in the selection of CDF projects .

He says it is the duty of local people in the wards to identify projects they want to be done in their respective localities explaining that the local authority together with area councilors have a mandate to monitor all the approved CDF projects in the district and ensure that the projects are implemented fully for the benefit of the public.

The Chirundu town council Chairperson further called on the local residents in the district to always engage the civic leadership and provide updates on the challenges affecting CDF projects in their wards to ensure timely delivery.

Mr. Muchindu who is also (UPND) Chirundu District Chairperson says the UPND new dawn government is using the bottom-up approach in delivering development to the people as such decisions are made with total inclusion of the people on the ground. In line with the decentralization policy

Former Southern province minister calls for a probe into the usage of Funds that were meant to recapitalize Zambia Railways Limited from the Euro bond.

FORMER SOUTHERN Province Minister in the Patriotic Front (PF) Government Dr Edify Hamukale has implored the UPND new dawn administration to consider investigating how the funds that were procured from the Euro Bondi loan to recapitalize Zambia Railways limited (ZRL) were used.

Dr. Edify Hamukale says the law enforcement agencies must take keen interest and investigate how the Eurobond funds that were supposed to go into Zambia Railways limited were utilized since the former Zambia Railways Managing director Professor Clive Chirwa has spoken publicly how named individuals were trying to transfer the funds from ZANACO to another bank.

Dr. Hamukale who made the request following Mr Chirwa's sentiments that he would like to know how the money was used, says the UPND new dawn administration must take keen interest to investigate how the EURO Bondi funds were utilized.

The former immediate Southern province minister says it is critical that public funds are used for their intended purposes emphasizing the need for the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) to probe how the money was spent.

Dr Hamukale who says since the money was meant for a specific project, it is prudent that necessary action is taken in an effort to restore public trust in the usage of public finances since the money was meant to revamp Zambia Railways.

Management at Zimba town Council advise (WDCs) in the area to identify real community projects to be done using the Cash for work Initiative.

THE ZIMBA TOWN council has requested all Ward Development Committees (WDCs) to begin identifying visible but impactful community projects to be done under the Cash for work programme.

ZIMBA TOWN council Secretary Collins Simoonga says all Ward Development Committees (WDCs) and zonal representatives must identify community projects that are not only visible but also impactful to the community that can be done using the ash for Work intitative.

In a press statement realesd by Zimba town council public relations officer Mastone Monze to the media Monday morning, Mr. Somoonga says the projects under the Cash for work Initiative must include molding of bricks for the construction of staff houses, VIP toilets, and classroom blocks at schools and health facilities.

The Zimba town Council Secretary who says the Cash for Work initiative must leave a lasting impact on the community also commended wards that have already started molding bricks for infrastructure development.

Mr. Somoonga further emphasized that the Cash for Work program should not be a token exercise but a transformative community-led approach that addresses real community challenges.
