Rules that make sense

Why exciting vocals is important

1. Adds clarity & brightness
A vocal exciter adds harmonics, especially in the high-mid and high frequencies, making the voice clearer without just boosting EQ.

2. Helps vocals cut through the mix
In busy beats (Afro-pop, Amapiano, Hip-hop), vocals can get buried. Exciters help the vocal stand out without turning it up too loud.

3. Gives life and energy
Excitation adds subtle distortion/harmonics that make vocals sound more present and exciting, not dull or flat.

4. Better translation on small speakers
Harmonics help vocals stay audible on phones, earbuds, and car speakers.

5. Cleaner than over-EQing
Instead of boosting highs too much with EQ (which can cause harshness), an exciter adds musical harmonics more naturally.

Important warning ⚠️

Don’t overdo it. Too much excitation makes vocals harsh, thin, or fatiguing.

Always excite after good recording, EQ, and compression.

Simple rule

> Good recording → EQ → Compression → Exciter (lightly)
