PRESIDENT HICHILEMA EXPECTED AT MULUNGUSHI UNIVERSITY TOMORROW FOR PROJECT INSPECTION

President Hakainde Hichilema is tomorrow expected to undertake a one-day working visit to Mulungushi University in Central Province.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Milner Mwanakampwe has told a media briefing in Kabwe this afternoon that the President is scheduled to arrive at Mulungushi University school grounds at 10:00 hours to interact with people from the area and surrounding communities.

Dr. Mwanakampwe explained that during the visit, President Hichilema is expected to check on the progress made on the construction of student hostels at the university and inspect the standby substation for electricity which was constructed to address power challenges at the school, following directives he gave earlier.

Dr. Mwanakampwe said President Hichilema is further expected to inspect network towers that have been installed at the University to improve connectivity for students and staff.

He added that the head of state is also likely to address aspiring contestants at the local authority before departing for Lusaka later in the afternoon.

Dr. Mwanakampwe has since encouraged members of the public wishing to interact with the president to be at Mulungushi University.

Three Mulungushi University Students Die, Three others Injured in Kabwe Road Accident.

Three Mulungushi University students have died while three others have been injured following a fatal road traffic accident in Kabwe.

The accident occurred today, Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, between 03:30 and 04:00 hours along the Great North Road near Mulungushi Bridge. A Mercedes Benz C200 registration number BBC 6881, driven by Mukuka Chanda, a third-year student at Mulungushi University, was involved in the accident with five passengers on board.

Mr. Chanda, along with two passengers—Felix Luther, also a third-year student, and Mwangula Kabwe, aged 24, a fourth-year student—died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries.

Police say the accident happened when the driver, who was traveling from south to north, lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed, causing it to overturn.

Meanwhile, three passengers—Willard Phiri, Ashford Soko, and Chongo Mutembula, all aged 24—sustained injuries ranging from deep cuts to the head and general body pains. The victims are currently admitted to Kabwe Central Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Kabwe Central Hospital mortuary.
