I DONT REGRET TURNING DOWN K9.4 MILLION FROM A BETTING COMPANY!

I'm receiving so many calls over this issue. I’ve also seen all the talk going round about me turning down the K9.4 million that was offered to me to sponsor the Africa Must Think conference by a betting company. Some say it was irresponsible to turn away such a huge amount! On the other end, my inbox is full of people who are impacted negatively by betting. Some are the victims and some are the victims of the victims! They are all applauding me for having taken such a bold stance. This has further cemented my stance on the issue!

I’d like to state this, do not pr******te your brand! Be strong on what you stand on! Betting impacts lives negatively and I wish to impact lives positively!

President of Botswana to Visit Zambia

By Masauso Mkwayaya

The President of Botswana, DUMA BOKO will undertake a State Visit to Zambia from 1st to 2nd August, 2025, at the invitation of President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

In a statement to ZNBC News, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE said during the visit, President HICHILEMA and President BOKO will preside over the Inaugural Session of the Zambia-Botswana Bi-National Commission -BNC- on Friday, 1st August 2025, at State House.

The BNC will elevate the relations from the existing Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation –JPCC- and will be the highest structured bilateral mechanism between Zambia and Botswana.

Mr. HAIMBE said the inaugural session will allow the Presidents to review progress made in the implementation of past decisions and agree on new programmes.

He said the BNC will culminate into the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between Zambia and Botswana in various sectors, further strengthening the foundation for meaningful collaboration and mutual growth.

The Foreign Affairs Minister said, on Saturday, 2nd August, 2025, President BOKO will grace the 97th Agricultural and Commercial Show, as Guest of Honour, in Lusaka.

Mr. HAIMBE also said that the two countries share critical infrastructure, particularly the Kazungula Bridge, serving as a pivotal facility in ensuring the free movement of goods and services, thus contributing to the greater integration of the southern African region.

He said President HICHILEMA has prioritized cooperation at regional level and the development of crucial infrastructure and processes, essential to improving trade facilitation and enhancing socio-economic integration.

Mr. HAIMBE said President BOKO is expected to depart Lusaka immediately after his engagements.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Mr. HAIMBE.

HICHILEMA URGES POWER PRODUCERS TO END LOAD-SHEDDING FOR SALONS, COMPOUNDS

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged electricity producers in the country to accelerate power projects, saying it's not right to load shed low energy consumers like salons and barbershops.

Mr Hichilema noted that all the progress in terms of increased power investments happening now is a result of the UPND’s sound leadership.

The Head of State urged power producers to take advantage of the New Dawn’s commitment and resolve to address historical energy sector bottlenecks by accelerating their investments.

Speaking at State House during a meeting with the Energy Traders Association, Mr Hichilema challenged them to ramp up the country’s power generation capacity.

“Why should we be load-shedding compounds, hairdressers, barbershops? Why should we be load-shedding citizens who are at the bottom? Why a big room like this cannot deliver a thousand megawatts of solar by December, what is the problem?

Africa to be hit hard as UK foreign aid cuts revealed

(BBC) The United Kingdom has revealed details of its plans to cut foreign aid, with support for children's education and women's health in Africa facing the biggest reductions.

The government said in February it would slash foreign aid spending by 40% - from 0.5% of gross national income to 0.3% - to increase defence spending to 2.5% after pressure from the US.

A Foreign Office report and impact assessment show the biggest cuts this year will come in Africa, with less spent on women's health and water sanitation with increased risks, it says, of disease and death.

Bond, a UK network of aid organisations, said women and children in the most marginalised communities would pay the highest price.

But the government said spending on multilateral aid bodies - money given to international organisations like the World Bank - would be protected, including the Gavi vaccine alliance, and it said the UK would also continue to play a key humanitarian role in hotspots such as Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan.

Baroness Chapman, minister for development, said: "Every pound must work harder for UK taxpayers and the people we help around the world and these figures show how we are starting to do just that through having a clear focus and priorities."

The government said the cuts follow "a line-by-line strategic review of aid" by the minister, which focused on "prioritisation, efficiency, protecting planned humanitarian support and live contracts while ensuring responsible exit from programming where necessary".

The Foreign Office said bilateral support - aid going directly to the recipient country - for some countries would decrease and multilateral organisations deemed to be underperforming would face future funding cuts. It has not yet announced which countries will be affected.

Bond said it was clear the government was "deprioritising" funding "for education, gender and countries experiencing humanitarian crises such as South Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia, and surprisingly the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Sudan, which the government said would be protected".

"It is concerning that bilateral funding for Africa, gender, education and health programmes will drop," Bond policy director Gideon Rabinowitz said.

"The world's most marginalised communities, particularly those experiencing conflict and women and girls, will pay the highest price for these political choices.

"At a time when the US has gutted all gender programming, the UK should be stepping up, not stepping back."

Foreign aid has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, with the one cabinet minister admitting the public no longer supports spending on it.

Actor Leo Simukoko Acquitted in Indecent Assault Case

By Memory Bbuku

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has acquitted Lusaka film actor, Leo Simukoko, popularly known as Mushala, who was accused of indecently assaulting a fellow artiste who had given him a lift.

When the matter came up for ruling on the case to answer before Magistrate Chrispin Hampungani, the court stated that it found nothing to corroborate the complainant's evidence to warrant placing the accused on his defense.

Magistrate Hampungani emphasized that unlike ordinary criminal offences, sexual offences require corroboration.

He noted that the medical report produced before the court merely reflected what the complainant had told the doctor and provided no additional substantive evidence.

The court further stated that other pieces of evidence presented did not connect to the alleged occurrence of indecent assault.

In this case, Simukoko, aged 33, was facing one count of indecent assault on a female, contrary to the laws of Zambia.

It was alleged that on March 27, 2022, the accused unlawfully and indecently assaulted his female colleague, who also works as a lab technician.

Simukoko pleaded not guilty to the charge, leading to the commencement of trial in which six state witnesses testified.
