TODAY'S PRAYER

FRIDAY, 5TH JUNE 2026

Dear Father, I am so grateful that you never give up on me. Even when I don't feel near you, you are never far from me. You actively pursue me, and you never fail me. Thank you! It's in your presence that I find joy, and so today, I choose to draw closer to you. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

BARBRA BANDA WANTS FANS TO TREAT 4-NATIONS AS WAFCON SENDOFF

Copper Queens skipper Barbra Banda has urged fans to turn up and watch the team during the Four Nations Tournament as it is the final opportunity to see the team at home before the WAFCON.

Speaking after the Wednesday afternoon training session in Ndola, Banda said the squad was looking to utilize the Four Nations Tournament for preparations for the WAFCON.

“Honestly, we are expecting good games during this Four Nations tournament because this time around there are no push over teams in the game. Looking at Kenya they are also going to the WAFCON so we expect tough games,” she says.
“Our aim is to go hard and be determined throughout the tournament and get the best results. We all know that our fans expect a lot, especially here in the city of Ndola. So, fans, we ask you to come in numbers to this beautiful stadium, for you to come and witness. This will be our last preparations when we are going to the WAFCON. So come all, come in numbers and witness the good game that we are going to give you.”

The on-fire Orlando Pride striker who has netted 11 goals in 10 games says her form has been down to hard work and hopes it will help propel the Copper Queens in their quest for WAFCON glory.

“It is just the hard work and, you know, the aim that I have put for myself, where I want to see myself in the next generation. So, it is just the hard work and determination at the end of the day,” she says.

Banda says the ultimate goal at the WAFCON will be clinching the world cup ticket that will see four semifinalists qualify to the Brazil 2027 world cup.

“We know it is going to be hard. This is why we are trying everything possible to have good preparations because we know how it feels to go to the World Cup. And that is our aim, going to the WAFCON,” she says.

“For the first stages, we need to do well so that we find ourselves to play the final stage that we can qualify to the World Cup, which we are aiming as a team. And we still want to go back to the World Cup. We know it's the highest level and we still want to learn more from them.”

The Copper Queens will face Kenya on Saturday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium at 15h00 while Zimbabwe will take on Lesotho in a lunch time kickoff.

Winners of the two matches will square off on Tuesday in the final at 18:00 while the losers will contest a third and fourth play-off at 15h00.

Zambia and Kenya are looking to fine tune ahead of the WAFCON while Zimbabwe and Lesotho are building for their forthcoming assignments.

The WAFCON will take place from July 25-August 16 in Morocco with Zambia being in Group C alongside Nigeria, Egypt and Malawi.

Tickets for the tournament are on sale on the FAZ Tech Pay platform and are pegged at K50 (East, North&South), K150 (West and K300 (VIP). One ticket will entitle fans to access to both matches.

Sean Tembo to contest Roma parliamentary seat as independent!

Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president Sean Tembo has announced that he will contest the Roma Constituency parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the August 13 General Elections.

Tembo’s decision follows his failure to file nominations as the running mate to presidential candidate Chanda Katotobwe during the recently concluded presidential nomination process.

In a message to his supporters, Tembo said he had resolved to seek election as Member of Parliament for Roma Constituency and outlined his development plans for the newly created constituency on a ward-by-ward basis.

His inability to file nominations as running mate was reportedly linked to concerns surrounding the status of PeP. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs recently clarified that PeP remains a registered political party and that the issues relate to office bearers recorded with the Registrar of Societies, which are yet to be regularised.

Despite the clarification, Tembo has opted to contest the Roma Constituency seat as an independent candidate rather than under the PeP banner.

Tembo is no stranger to national politics, having previously contested presidential elections under the PeP ticket. His decision to seek a parliamentary seat marks a significant shift in his political career and will be the first time he is contesting for a seat in the National Assembly. It will also be his first election bid as an independent candidate.

State seeks private hearing in Chanda case!

The State has applied to have the case involving Edward Chanda, one-half of the popular music duo Chanda Na Kay, heard in camera.

Chanda is appearing before the Lusaka Magistrates' Court on charges of child trafficking, child grooming, and child solicitation. He is accused of trafficking a child within Zambia for purposes of sexual exploitation and of using a computer system to groom and solicit the alleged victim.

The musician has denied all the charges and pleaded not guilty before Chief Resident Magistrate Nthandose Chabala. He has since been released on bail pending trial.

The State is seeking to have the proceedings conducted in private, which would restrict access to the media and members of the public, allowing only essential parties approved by the court to attend.

A hearing held in camera is not open to the public and is typically ordered in cases involving sensitive evidence or the protection of vulnerable persons.
