🚨 PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERN IN KAFUE — A CRY FOR HELP THAT HAS GONE ON FOR TOO LONG 🚨
Residents of Kafue are deeply concerned about the excessive dust pollution coming from the quarry mine in Ngwenya (AVIC). Huge amounts of dust are being released into the air daily, with particles reportedly spreading as far as 5 kilometres into surrounding residential areas, including Greenfield and even reaching Kafue General Hospital.
The pollution is visibly affecting the environment, settling on rooftops, tree leaves, and plants. More importantly, residents are being forced to breathe in this polluted air every single day, raising serious concerns about possible long-term health effects, especially for children, the elderly, and other vulnerable members of the community.
This has become a cry for help that residents say has gone on for far too long.
We urgently appeal to ZEMA, Environmental Health authorities, and the Kafue Town Council to intervene immediately and ensure proper dust control measures are put in place to protect the public and the environment.
ZEMA is an independent body established under the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011, with a mandate to protect the environment and human health through regulation and pollution control, while ensuring the welfare of people, animals, and plants in Zambia. We therefore trust that the Authority will urgently look into this matter in the interest of public safety and environmental protection.
Clean air is a basic right. Our health, our children’s future, and our environment must be protected. 🌍💔
