Romans 1:18-32

Did Jesus replace God's Ten Commandments with his own laws, and if so what are the totally new rules of Jesus away from the Ten commandments?
Great question—this gets into the heart of what Jesus taught and how it relates to the Old Testament, including the Ten Commandments.

Short answer:
No, Jesus did not replace the Ten Commandments with totally new laws. Instead, He fulfilled the law and emphasized its deeper, spiritual meaning. He summarized the entire law into two core commandments, but that doesn't mean He abolished the original ones.

Here’s what Jesus said:

In Matthew 5:17, Jesus said:

> “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."

And in Matthew 22:36–40, when asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus replied:

> “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.”
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

So what did Jesus do differently?

Rather than listing a totally new set of rules, Jesus:

Elevated the moral standard by focusing on the heart (for example, teaching that anger can be as serious as murder, and lust as serious as adultery – see Matthew 5:21–28).

Challenged legalism, where people followed rules outwardly but lacked love, justice, and mercy.

Fulfilled ceremonial and sacrificial laws through His death and resurrection (which is why Christians no longer follow certain Old Testament rituals, like animal sacrifices).

Jesus' Core Teachings (summed up):

2. Love others deeply

3. Forgive as you've been forgiven

4. Be humble and merciful

5. Live righteously from the heart, not just by rules

6. Follow Him – as the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)

Introduction

The Seventh Day of the Week, referred to below as the Seventh-Day Sabbath, should be the best and happiest day of the week for all the members of the family. Preparation includes preparing our homes, clothing, food, relationships, minds, offerings, bodies and Sabbath School lessons, among other things. Lack of preparation limits God’s blessings upon the day, results in a dissatisfying experience, and robs the participants of the joys that have been promised. In the next paragraphs I share quotations from Ellen White on the subject, as well as a few other suggestions, that you will find helpful in preparing for the Sabbath.



It strikes me in writing, however, that one of the most helpful things that can be done in preparing for the Sabbath on a long-term basis comes in the proper choice of a life partner. If you are still single, make sure that you only align your life with an individual who loves the Lord, has accepted the truth of the Seventh-day Sabbath, and wants to make the Sabbath a joyous and holy day. Rose and I have discovered in our travels that some Adventist believers made poor choices, connected themselves with unbelievers, and therefore find themselves in situations where it is very hard for the family to make the Sabbath a joyous and holy day.—Dan

The word “Keep” refers to obeying God and making sure His Seventh-Day Sabbath is observed in holy manner.
