PRESS STATEMENT
FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN KAPIRI MPOSHI DISTRICT
April 12, 2026 -Three (03) people died, while fifteen (15) others sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident that occurred on April 11, 2026, around 09:40 hours in Luanshimba area along the Great North Road, Kapiri Mposhi District.
The accident involved a Nissan Caravan minibus, registration number CAK 4236ZM, a public service vehicle driven by Watson Sililo, aged 36 of Lusaka West. The vehicle had 18 passengers on board and was extensively damaged.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver was travelling towards Kabwe. Due to excessive speed, he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road to the right and overturned into a drainage.
As a result of the impact, three passengers died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Elton Mulenga, 38, of Lusaka; an unidentified adult male of unknown residence; and a female juvenile whose identity has not yet been established.
Fifteen (15) passengers, comprising five (5) males and ten(10) females, sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in Kapiri Mposhi Urban Hospital Mortuary, pending identification and postmortem examinations.
Investigations have been instituted to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
We urge all motorists to exercise caution, observe speed limits, and strictly adhere to road traffic regulations to prevent loss of life.
