The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has asked the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to explain its decision to suspend the counting and announcement of election results nationwide following reports of violence and the alleged theft of marked ballot papers in some districts.

During a press briefing held earlier today, LAZ President Arnold Kaluba questioned why the suspension was extended across the country when the reported incidents were limited to particular areas.

LAZ says the ECZ should provide a clear explanation to the public and election stakeholders to maintain confidence in the electoral process.
