NZAMANE PALACE, A CDF MILESTONE – MOYO

16 April 2026.

Luangeni Member of Parliament and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Moyo has described the commissioning of Chief Nzamane’s Palace in Luangeni Constituency in Chipata as a milestone in improving the welfare of traditional leaders under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.

He explained that the newly built facility, funded through the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), comprises the Chief’s Palace, two retainers’ houses, and a modern meeting hall.

The project, valued at 4 million kwacha, was carried out by the Zambia National Service.

Moyo highlighted that he followed the presidential directive to construct dignified palaces for chiefs across the country.

He stressed that the initiative demonstrates government’s commitment to decentralisation, improved service delivery, and strengthening the role of traditional leadership in national development.

He further noted that the development marks the first-ever palace constructed in Luangeni Constituency, symbolising progress in rural infrastructure and reinforcing President Hichilema’s vision of uplifting communities throughout Zambia.

16 April 2026.

South African prominent opposition leader, Julius Malema, returned to court on Wednesday as prosecutors urged a maximum 15-year sentence for firing a rifle into the air at a 2018 rally.

He was convicted last year of unlawful firearm possession and discharging a weapon in a public place. Malema (45) pleaded not guilty, saying the gun was a toy.

Prosecutors warned against letting a well-known lawmaker with a large following avoid jail, especially since young supporters may imitate such conduct.

His lawyers said he meant no harm and sought a lighter penalty (like a fine). The case was adjourned to Thursday, and Malema told supporters he would appeal any sentence.

Statement by Women for Change on Non-Bailable Sexual Offences.

15 April 2026.

Women for Change welcomes the amended Criminal Procedure Code Act No. 4 of 2026, which makes all sexual offences including r**e, defilement, and in**st non-bailable.

This is a significant step toward protecting survivors, strengthening accountability, and ending impunity for sexual violence. Too often, perpetrators exploit bail to intimidate survivors and evade justice. This amendment sends a clear message: sexual violence will not be tolerated.

We commend Government for prioritizing the safety and dignity of women and children. We urge continued investment in survivor-centered services, timely prosecution, and public awareness to ensure this law translates into real protection and justice.

Women for Change remains committed to working with stakeholders to safeguard the rights of women and girls across Zambia.
