A woman went to a native doctor (ing'anga) to give her a charm that will stop her husband from beāting her up all the time. The native walked by a tree, brought a root, cut it, and gave it to the lady. Then he instrusted her to always put it in her mouth and close it whenever the husband starts shouting at her and/or is angry.
The first time the husband showed his anger and shouted, she quickly put the root in her mouth. And the husband never beat her, he just shouted and it ended. Later things went back to normal, babapekanisha nobwali, he ate. Took a bath, and the peace continued.
The second time the husband showed his displeasure, awe the wife quickly put the root in her mouth. As usually things went back to normal and peace reigned.
The third time it happens again, she did the usual, put the root in her mouth. Awe paba nomutende.
Then she realised that its actually working. She went back to thank the native doctor with some gifts and money.
Out of excitement, she said, "ala ba doctor, umuti uyu mwampele wamaka sana. My husband has never laid his hand on me ever since I started using it. Thank you so much, you have saved my marriage."
Surprisingly, the doctor replied, "my daughter, honestly speaking, there is nothing special about that root, it's just an ordinary root. The bottom line is that learn to keep your mouth shut when your husband is angry. Do your wifely duties, and if you really have something to say, wait for the right time to calmly speak to him when he is at peace. Now throw away the root, and go home."
