The fire came without warning β one moment of light, then chaos.
By the time Mario Alberto woke, the world outside his window was burning.
He couldnβt hear the crackle or the sirens.
Mario is deaf.
But he could see the flames β and he knew his dog, Gordo, was still inside.
He ran toward the blaze with nothing but a garden hose, water hissing uselessly against the heat. Firefighters shouted, but Mario could only point, signing again and again: βMy dog. Please.β
Then, through the smoke, one firefighter appeared β holding something small and still. Gordo.
Mario fell to his knees, pulling his trembling dog close, tears cutting through the ash on his face. The house was gone. Everything was gone.
But love had survived.
A firefighter watching quietly said, βThatβs why we do this.β
Because fire can destroy everything β except the bond that refuses to burn. ποΈβ€οΈβπ₯
