A CALL TO THE CHURCH AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS TO DEDEND OUR CONSTITUTION
We stand at a critical time in our nation’s history, where the integrity of our Zambian Constitution is under threat. Actions by the UPND to reintroduce Bill 7 to Parliament, despite a clear ruling from the Constitutional Court, raise serious concerns about respect for our highest legal document. This is not just a legal issue, it is a matter of national sovereignty and the foundational principles that guide our democracy.
We call upon our churches, NGOs, and all civil society organizations to rise up and defend the Constitution that safeguards the rights of all Zambians. It is essential that we, as a united community, reject any attempts to manipulate or undermine our Constitution, which has been put in place to protect us from governance that does not serve the people. Our voice matters, and we must be heard.
Now is the time for collective action. We urge you to mobilize, educate, and engage with communities about the importance of our Constitution and the implications of disregarding its authority. Together, we can stand against any moves that seek to weaken our democratic framework and let those in power know that the will of the people cannot be silenced.
Let us be the guardians of our Constitution. It is our responsibility to ensure that every Zambian enjoys the full protection of our laws. We cannot stand by as our rights and freedoms are threatened. Let us unite for the sake of our nation, for our future, and for the generations to come. Together, we can defend the sovereignty of our sacred document, the Zambian Constitution.
