ECZ Launches Online Voter Pre-Registration Platform

By Ruth Chayinda

Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has launched the online voter pre-registration platform, targeting all eligible first-time voters across the country.

ECZ Chairperson, MWANGALA ZALOUMIS says the online pre-registration initiative forms part of the Commission's electoral roadmap ahead of the mass voter registration exercise scheduled from 13 October to 11 November 2025.

Ms ZALOUMIS says the platform will allow eligible voters with internet access to begin the registration process online, making it easier and more convenient to participate in the upcoming elections.

She however says all those who pre-register online will still be required to visit designated registration centers during the mass registration period to complete the process, which includes the capture of fingerprints and a portrait photograph.

Speaking during the launch, Ms ZALOUMIS said those who pre-register online will spend less time at registration centers, as their preliminary details would have already been captured.

And Ms ZALOUMIS has revealed that youths turning 18 on or before 30 April 2026 will also be eligible to register and obtain a voter's card, ensuring they are included in the voter register for the 2026 General Elections.

LUWINGU BASED BUSINESSMAN REFUTES MP'S CLAIMS ON HIM.

A Luwingu based businessman has refuted claims by Lubansenshi Constituency Member of Parliament Taulo CHEWE, of being a CDF beneficiary for a construction project in the district.

Stephen Katongo has explained that the misrepresentation of facts that were said on Lwansase Radio on Sunday September 7,2025 during the "Taulo CHEWE No Buyantashi program", was far from the actual facts.

" Yes I'm a contractor at Misambula Secondary school under the World Bank program, not CDF," he said.

He charged that the statement made on the radio by Mr. Chewe's representatives meant to mislead masses by creating a wrong impression to people,of him benefiting under the CDF construction project, when infact not.

" Such statements can create unnecessary anxiety among the people who might think that the construction of Misambula Secondary school is under CDF,yet in reality that's World Bank project", Mr. Katongo added.

And when reached for a comment, Mr. Chewe explained that the funds used for the construction of the Misambula Secondary school and CDF are still government funds.

" Either he likes it or not,the project he's working on is being funded by the same government that is funding CDF, so there's no difference", he said.

The Lubansenshi lawmaker said this in a telephone interview with Lwansase Radio News this afternoon.

ZEMA WARNS:
Lusaka, September 5,2025.

WARNING TO ILLEGAL MINERS: CEASE AND DESIST FROM DESTRUCTIVE ACTIVITIES ON KAFUE RIVER

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has conducted an inspection on the Kafue River banks in Chingola and Chililabombwe Districts, following reports of illegal mining activities in Hippo Pool area. Our findings reveal significant disturbances to the water course, increased turbidity, and potential impacts on water quality posing serious threats to the ecosystem and biodiversity.
ZEMA hereby orders all individuals and companies engaged in unauthorised mining activities in the area to cease and desist immediately. These activities are not only illegal IN HIPPO POOL AREA, but also pose significant environmental risks, including:
- Destruction of habitats and loss of biodiversity
- Pollution of water sources
- Increased risk of soil erosion
We urge all stakeholders to report any further instances of illegal mining activities to ZEMA. Let this serve as a final warning: failure to comply with environmental regulations will result in swift action, including penalties and prosecution.
ZEMA remains committed to protecting Zambia's environment and natural resources. We will continue to work with communities, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that those responsible for environmental degradation are held accountable.
