18-YEAR OLD BOY FROM KAFUE DROPS OUT OF SCHOOL TO GET MARRIED
An 18-year-old boy from Kafue has stopped going to school because he wants to get married

The boy is *Penias Daka*.

He told his parents that he can no longer continue with school.

According to Penias, he has been having strong feelings and pressure to get married.

In Bemba he told his parents: *"ichikalipa chunfwe umwine"

This means *"I have been troubled with these feelings myself."*

His parents said they were shocked by his decision. They tried to talk to him to continue with school, but Penias said his mind is made up.

Many people in Kafue are talking about this story. Some say he is too young to get married. Others say it is his choice.

School is important, but every person has their own decision to make.

Court jails Livingstone City Council accountant for stealing over K300,000 CDF!

A Livingstone City Council assistant accountant has been sentenced to three years in prison with hard labour for diverting K316,000 in CDF funds meant for 11 cooperatives into personal accounts.

34-year-old Sydney Silwimba pleaded guilty to all 22 charges before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court sitting in Livingstone.

He was convicted on 11 counts of Fraudulent False Accounting and 11 counts of Theft by Public Servant.

The court sentenced him to two years on each count of Fraudulent False Accounting and three years on each count of Theft by Public Servant. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve three years in total.

Silwimba was also ordered to pay back K316,000, the amount he diverted.

The case followed a report by Livingstone City Council management in July 2025 after CDF funds meant for 11 cooperatives could not be accounted for.

Police investigations found that the money had been diverted into personal accounts.

26-YEAR-OLD WOMAN OF KAZUNGULA COMMITS SU***DE IN POLICE CELLS.

A 26-year-old woman has allegedly committed su***de while in police custody at Kazungula Police Station in Southern Province.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo says Milimo Mpongo of Makalanguzu Village in Kazungula District was found hanging in the female cells between 07:00 and 08:00 hours yesterday, August 28, 2026.

Ms. Mpongo was detained alone in connection with four theft complaints.

Mr. Namalongo says on August 27, 2026, between 14:00 and 16:00 hours, Ms. Mpongo allegedly visited four different Airtel Money businesses in Kazungula District and requested transactions ranging from one thousand to three thousand four hundred kwacha to be deposited into her mobile money number.

He says it is alleged that after the transactions, she would open a small black laptop bag she was carrying and claim that she had forgotten the money at home before leaving the respective premises.

Mr. Namalongo says following the complaints, Ms. Mpongo was apprehended and placed in police custody.

He says officers on duty spoke to her at around 07:00 hours yesterday and found her alive, but she was later discovered hanging in the female cells using the chitenge material she was wearing, which had been tied to a window burglar bar.

Mr. Namalongo says Police informed the deceased’s relatives, after which the body was untied in the presence of a relative and taken to Kazungula General Hospital, where she was certified dead.

He says the body was later deposited at Livingstone Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, Police have launched investigations into the incident.
