GPZ SALUTES HH FOR REJECTING U.S FUND

The opposition Golden Party of Zambia (GPZ) has added it's voice in commending Republican President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn government on the move to reject more $1-billion US funding package on grounds that the conditions attached did not align with the interests of the Nation.

In a state to Mac Media Thursday evening, GPZ President Jackson Silavwe said inspired by patriotism and defense of our collective national interests, his party had no option but to stand and support President Hichilema on this matter.

Mr Silavwe added that his party believes that collective national interests supercedes political contests.

He further noted that GPZ does not mistake patriotism with differing on development angles but will always rise to defend the sovereignty of our Nation.

According to the Zambia Police Deputy Spokeswoman Chipo Kaitisha, Chelstone Police Station is holding on to a 26-year-old Mary Kachilika of Meanwood Kwamwena Phase 4, for the alleged murder of two children aged six and two years, respectively.

Ms Kaitisha adds that husband to the two wives reported the matter to Police yesterday, around 14:00 hours, after a fisherman reportedly witnessed his second wife allegedly throwing his two children in Ngwerere River.

"On the day of the incident, the husband had reportedly gone to work, while the first wife was outside doing house chores .

"The children were inside the house eating. The mother later heard the children crying and, upon checking, discovered they were missing. She followed the direction of the cries toward Ngwerere River," Kaitisha shares.

She says when F***y Kaninji, mother of the two children reached Ngwerere River, she found a fisherman reportedly pursuing Mary.

"At the river, she found Mary Kachilika being pursued by a local fisher man aged 28, who was fishing nearby. He is reported to have witnessed the accused allegedly throwing the children into the river and apprehended her," she narrates.

She says the woman was reportedly jealously of her fellow wife who had children and she did not.

The Police Spokesperson further disclosed that search for the bodies of the two children is underway as investigations continue.

GOVERNMENT HASN'T FAILED THE SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM - MWANAKAMPWE

Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe has trashed claims by some school authorities in Kabwe District that government has not paid out funds for meal preparation in schools.

Addressing the media in Kabwe Wednesday afternoon, Dr Mwanakampwe reaffirmed the new dawn administration's stance on the implementation of the free education policy, adding that more than enough grants have been released to schools to support the project.

He has observed that it is the responsibility of school administrators to utilize these funds effectively, including paying those preparing meals for the learners.

Dr. Mwanakampwe noted that Teacher - Parent Committees can contribute to school programs with approval from the District Education Board Secretary, but any contributions without approval would be considered illegal.

He cautioned school authorities in the District to avoid the temptation of soliciting for support from parents towards the feeding program.

POLICE TO QUIZ EX-DPP OVER UNINSURED VEHICLE STILL REGISTERED UNDER GRZ

POLICE in Mongu have summoned the former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lillian Siyuni over the failure to change ownership and insure her motor vehicle after the car was impounded for a traffic offence.

According to police the vehicle was impounded after it was discovered operating without a valid insurance certificate and still registered under government ownership.

The vehicle was intercepted on February 23 after traffic officers stopped four vehicles travelling in a convoy linked to Brian Mundubile along Limulunga Road.

The convoy reportedly failed to comply with instructions to stop at a random traffic inspection point.

Officers pursued the vehicles and later intercepted them along the Mongu-Lusaka Road before escorting the drivers to Mongu Central Police Station, where various offences under the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002 were recorded.

Among the vehicles impounded was a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number BAF 9051, driven by Dickson Tembo of Lusaka and later identified as belonging to Siyuni.

Western Province Commanding officer Rae Hamoonga said inspections revealed that the vehicle remained registered under the Ministry of Works and Supply despite having been sold to the former DPP.

Police confirmed that Siyuni will be quizzed on the offence.

Meanwhile, the driver was charged with failure to obey a traffic signal, expired road tax, expired insurance certificate and an expired fitness certificate.

Other vehicles travelling in the convoy were charged with traffic offences but were later cleared after drivers paid admission-of-guilt fines.

A Toyota Land Cruiser registration number BAE 1228, driven by Ricky Chambawilo of Lusaka, was fined for failure to obey a traffic signal and failure to display registration plates.

Another vehicle, Toyota Land Cruiser registration number BAL 4232 belonging to the National Assembly and driven by Chibanga Lukwesa, was charged with failure to obey a traffic signal before being cleared after payment of fines.

A fourth vehicle, registration number BAE 6548, also belonging to the National Assembly and driven by Simukoko Gershom, was charged with failure to obey a traffic signal, expired road tax and an expired fitness certificate.

Hamoonga urged members of the public to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officers at all times.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UPDATE ON THE CASE OF CHILD STEALING – Kafue General Hospital

February 24, 2026 – The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public of a positive development in the case of child stealing reported at Kafue General Hospital in Kafue District on February 21, 2026.

Following the incident, the Zambia Police Service constituted a dedicated task team of investigators to conduct comprehensive investigations into the matter.

Today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at around 05:40 hours, Kafue Police Station, through Shikoswe Police Post, received a report from Ms. Faides Phiri of Shikoswe Township that she had discovered an abandoned male infant.

Brief facts of the matter are that around 05:00 hours, Ms. Phiri, who works as a maid, was on her way to work when she heard the cry of a baby coming from an area covered with small grass. She moved closer to ascertain the source of the sound and discovered an infant lying there. She alerted a man who was walking ahead of her, who advised her to report the matter to the police.

Ms. Phiri immediately picked up the baby and reported the matter to Shikoswe Police Post.

Acting swiftly on the report, police officers responded promptly, secured the child, and immediately transported the infant to Kafue General Hospital for medical attention. The child has since been reunited with the mother.

The Zambia Police Service extends its sincere gratitude to Ms. Faides Phiri for her alertness, prompt action, and strong sense of civic responsibility, which significantly contributed to the safe recovery and reunification of the child. Her actions underscore the vital role members of the public play in supporting law enforcement efforts to protect vulnerable members of our community.

Investigations into the matter remain ongoing, and the public will be updated as developments unfold.
