There are phone calls and text messages I no longer respond to. Because each time I see the name pop up, I already know what’s coming;….
The moment I respond, I’m being asked for something.
No “How have you been?”
No real connection.
Just need.
I was talking to my “big sister” Maureen Nenechi, about this recently, and the way she framed it really sharpened the thought for me. We’ve quietly normalised reaching out to people only when we want something, rather than taking the time to build genuine connections.
It also reminded me of a point shared by Dr Rozious Siatwambo at Zionyt Spa’s cosmetology graduation, where he was Guest of Honour. He spoke about the value of relationships and the importance of nurturing them intentionally over time.
Investing in relationships before the need arises is one of the most underrated forms of wealth.
Trust actually compounds, so does goodwill.
And when the season comes where support, collaboration, or opportunity is needed, you’re not reaching out as a stranger with a request..You’re leaning into a relationship that already exists.
