KNOW YOUR RIGHTS HERE

fellow citizens do you know that police officers are not allowed to do
during an Arrest

1. They CANNOT arrest you over civil matters
The police have no business arresting anyone
because of:
debts
rent issues
boyfriend-girlfriend quarrels
business disagreements
"He insulted me"
Those are civil matters. The police exist for crime, not private disputes.

2. They CANNOT beat, slap, torture, or brutalize you
No officer has the right to "discipline" you.
Torture is illegal whether physical, verbal, or
psychological. Even if you're a suspect, you are still
entitled to dignity under the law.

3. They CANNOT search your phone without your consent or a warrant
Your phone is private property. They cannot
forcefully open your messages, read your chats go through your gallery, access your banking apps unless there is a lawful basis like a court warrant or immediate suspicion connected to the crime they stopped you for.

4. They CANNOT detain you longer than 24-48
hours without charging you
They cannot keep you indefinitely. If there is
evidence, charge you. If there is no evidence
release you. Keeping you beyond the constitutional time frame becomes unlawful detention.

5. They CANNOT refuse you access to your lawyer or family You have the right to call a lawyer speak with someone close to you, have legal representation during interrogation, blocking this right is unconstitutional,

6. They CANNOT force you to sign a statement Vot even "just write your side." Not even "sign here." Your statement must be voluntarily written by you, made without threat, pressure, or intimidation If you're not comfortable, you can say:
'I prefer to remain silent until my lawyer arrives."

7. They CANNOT arrest you without telling you the reason, They must state the offence clearly. You cannot be arrested based on guesswork, vibes or "follow me to the station first."

8. They CANNOT search your body disrespectfully Women must be searched by female officers. No officer can conduct a degrading or inappropriate search the law forbids it.

9. They CANNOT use arrest as a tool of intimidation Police power is for public safety not for settling scores, collecting "bail money," or harassing
citizens.

10. They CANNOT demand money for bail
Bail is FREE
Whether the case is minor or serious. Any officer demanding money for bail is breaking the law. Police officers have authority but that authority has boundaries. When you know those boundaries, you protect yourself because the difference between
obedience and oppression is simply knowing your rights.

I had a friend who got a scholarship to study in Canada.
After three years abroad, he came back home looking fresh and full of life.

When I visited him, I joked,
“Chei, David! So the food you've been eating made you a different person? You have changed a lot man !”
We both laughed.

He smiled and said,
“My brother, if you see the difference between our systems and Canada you can cry. Even the school system alone makes you respect yourself.”

I was curious.
“What do you mean?” I asked.

Then he told me something that shocked me.

“In my school in Canada, the lecturers don’t give students zero in exams. Even if you fail, they’ll still find a way to encourage you. The lowest you can get is 40%.”

I was confused.
“Wait, you mean even if a student writes rubbish, they’ll still give him 40?”

He nodded.

“Yes. So, one day I asked my lecturer the same question. I said, ‘Sir, why not give zero? Isn’t that the right punishment for failure?’
The man looked at me and said something that broke me.”

He said,

“Young man, no human deserves a zero.

How can I give a zero to a student who wakes up early every day to attend lectures?

How can I give a zero to someone who tries, even if he didn’t succeed?

How can I give a zero to a mind that is still learning?

Here, we don’t grade just answers. We grade effort. Because everyone deserves to feel seen.”

My friend paused for a while, his eyes almost teary.
He said, "Felix, that day I knew the real meaning of humanity. They don’t just teach books there, they teach value.”

His story took me back to my childhood.
I remembered how my primary school teacher used to give me zero and then announce it proudly in class.
She would draw big eyes and mouth on my script and tell my classmates to sing “Shame, shame, shame!” while she flogged me in front of everyone.

Back then, I thought it was normal.
But now I know many of us didn’t fail because we were dull.
We failed because the system made us believe we were nothing.

Sometimes, all a child needs is encouragement, not humiliation.
Zeros destroy confidence.
Mockery kills interest.
Once a student believes he’s useless, he stops trying.

Teachers, parents, lecturers let’s change this system.
Let’s stop tearing children down in the name of discipline.
Let’s start teaching with love, patience, and respect.

We can build a better Africa.
Because every child deserves a chance not shame. 💔
For teachers.

NO MORE UNAUTHORIZED MUKANDA CAMPS.

By Kwalombota Mwangombe

Traditional leaders from tribes that practice the Mukanda initiation ceremony in Northwestern, Western, and Southern Provinces have resolved to form a National Executive Committee to regulate the holding of Mukanda camps across the country.

The leaders say the committee will have the authority to approve Mukanda activities, particularly in areas where the ceremony is not traditionally practiced.

They have further resolved that permission to conduct Mukanda must be granted by respective Chiefs through Provincial Executive Committees.

The traditional leaders state that Mukanda is a cultural rite exclusive to tribes that practice it and have directed that individuals or groups outside the tribes must cease conducting the ceremony.

The resolutions were made during a meeting held in Livingstone, following concerns raised by local residents regarding alleged abductions of boys from non-practicing tribes and disorderly conduct associated with some Makishi masquerades.

THE KARIBA DAM OF 1959 CAN NOT SUSTAIN ELECTRICITY DEMAND OF 2025...(We need a multi-source energy mix,if we are to meet the electricity demand,Kariba alone is now too small...)

Kariba Dam was officially opened in 1959, was a game-changer for Zambia (then Northern Rhodesia) and Zimbabwe (then Southern Rhodesia), providing much-needed hydroelectric power. Back then, Zambia's population was around 3 million, with only a handful of people, mines, and industries having access to electricity.
Fast forward to today, Zambia's population has ballooned to approximately 20 million, with a significant majority connected to the power grid. There's been substantial growth in mines, industries, and overall economic activity – all hungry for reliable power. Hydroelectric power, primarily from Kariba Dam, hasn't kept pace with our growth in population.
It's time we looked for other alternative power generation solutions.
What we need is a pragmatic pivot to, embracing renewables energy that will correspond with today's electricity supply demand,it's clear hydro power energy has failed us,it's unreliable due to climatic changes and Lake Kariba is now too small to satisfy the demand.

"Sustainable development requires the engagement of all people".-Jeffrey Sachs.

*Sorry I majored in Development Studies not political science,so my concentration and interest is Development and not 'Politics'...What the country need are more sustainable developmental ideas and less politics, unfortunately the opposite is what's obtaining...*
