I received my adoption certificate in the presence of all senior party officials on 20th May, 2026. I'd like to thank President Hakainde for his support throughout this process, however, there is an under current of violence that will erupt if I insist on filing my documents. The threats I am receiving are because of an attempt to cover up the massive corruption at Lusaka City Council. After consulting with my family and the Party, I have decided to step aside and not participate in this year's elections. I love Lusaka forever

20 behind bars over Gary's attack

POLICE in Mazabuka have rounded up 20 political cadres in connection with the violent disruption that rocked the nomination process involving former Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Gary Nkombo.

The suspects participated in attacks on Nkombo when he went to file in his nomination as an independent parliamentary candidate at Mazabuka Civic Centre yesterday morning.

The incident triggered chaos at the civic centre, forcing police officers to intervene and rescue the former lawmaker, who later managed to successfully file in his nomination amid tight security.

According to police, the violence involved a group of cadres led by Bilden Shalooba who forced their way through the gate manned by officers before confronting Nkombo and assaulting him, while also damaging property during the commotion.

Police confirmed that 20 suspects had been apprehended to help with investigations as authorities move to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other possible culprits.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo said the suspects were picked up for questioning as police continue to gather evidence and record statements from witnesses linked to the case.

He warned that police would not tolerate any form of electoral violence, stressing that law enforcement officers remain on high alert to ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Commissioner Namalongo further emphasized that all political players must be free to conduct their campaigns and nomination processes without intimidation, harassment or disruption, adding that anyone found wanting would face the full force of the law.

“The police have taken this matter seriously because we want this election to be as peaceful as possible and we want to ensure that all the people are free to do their campaigns and anything concerning elections very freely without fear of anything,” said Namalongo.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Chile One’s dad dies after a short illness

CELEBRATED artiste Obed Chileshe widely known as Chile One MrZambia, has lost his father Frank Chileshe.

The late Chileshe passed away yesterday afternoon, after a short illness.

The sad development has been confirmed by the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) in an official statement issued by spokesperson Edmond Mbanga Miti.

ZAM said it received the news with deep sorrow, describing Chileshe as a supportive father who played an important role in the upbringing and career journey of one of Zambia’s most loved music artistes.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Zambia Association of Musicians announces the passing of Frank Chileshe, beloved father of Zambian artiste Obed Chileshe a.k.a Chile One MrZambia,” Miti stated.

The association extended its condolences to Chile One, the Chileshe family, relatives and close friends during this difficult time.

ZAM further said it stands in solidarity with the bereaved family, recognising the role the late Chileshe played in supporting the artiste’s rise in the music industry.

The association has since called on members of the music fraternity and fans across the country to keep the family in prayer.

Meanwhile, funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated once the family finalises the details.
